Nexus 7 (2012) slow response after Lollipop

My Nexus 7 is slower after the upgrade. KitKat seemed to make it slower than original but now it seems worse. I tried clearing system cache last night but that didn't help. Is there a cure or is it just old and decrepid?

Old? Three year old hardware should not be this painful. This is simply bad behavior and unacceptable. My four year old S3 is a rocket. This is shameful!

We all liked how cheap these things were when they came out. They used lousy RAM to get them to that price point. There's no free lunch.

I'm in the same boat, except that most everything runs fine but Chrome is pretty much unusable. I'm wondering if a factory reset would help or not. Any thoughts?

I wiped cache too many times to no avail. I reset to factory and wiped memory. 5 loaded differently with a fresh image. Then wiped cache again and lots of UI and Launcher not responding errors. I then removed Facebook and Weather Bug. Even Chrome runs better now. Wiped cache again leaving FB and WB off and I must say that I like my N7 again. Too be continued....

I went ahead and did the factory reset. I haven't restored my homescreens and folders yet but in general response seems to be much better.

When I reinstalled the Google Now launcher after doing the reset, my home screens restored themselves.

FYI: I'm about 24 hours into a factory reset of my N7 (2012) and it seems to be doing fine, aside from the occasional lag. Knock on wood!

Ummm... No. It run acceptably well on my N5, but my N7 is unusable.
I just rolled back to KitKat from Lollipop on my Nexus 7 (2012). It's like a breath of fresh air.

Every time there's an OS update there seems to be a group of users whose tablets suffer some degradation. For myself, I've never had a problem with my N7(2012) with any update. It seems to run better now than ever. Does anyone have any ideas what makes the difference?

Maybe the apps installed? Mine was horrible even after a factory reset. Then, I factory reset and didn't install any apps. It was good, but as I have added more apps, the more laggy it is becoming.

The 2012 N7 processor only has 1gb of ram. Most other recent devices have at least 2gb of ram. That's why they are so slow.

Please Help!!! I used to love my 2012 Nexus 7, but now it runs terrible. It is very slow!!! I have stopped using it completely!!! I have tried clearing the cache, along with every other suggestions others have had. I even went as far as to do a complete factory reset. This tablet is now useless. Everything is slow, it doesn't matter if your online or offline. Google, Android, somebody Please fix this!!!!

Note that the Nexus 7 2012 (wifi-only version) is still running 5.0 as opposed to 5.0.1 which newer Nexus devices are running and which is, by all accounts, an improvement on 5.0.

I guess I'm lucky that my 3G version has still not had an upgrade to 5.0 from Kitkat. I'm hoping that when the upgrade finally arrives it will jump straight to 5.0.1 (or even 5.0.2 by the time Google gets round to upgrading the 3G version? Who knows?)

Well one of the reasons why Nexus 7 2012 start to get slower for some people has to do with the memory technology used in the tablet at the time.

Once the tablet is filled with stuff, even after you remove it the seems to bog down significantly. And this affects the small memory variants more than the larger ones.

TRIM support properly enabled in Android 4.3(or 4.4) alleviated some of the performance issues related to memory but software can only go so far...

Android 5.0 brought along with it some of it's own issues, mainly related to memory management. I've noticed some massive slow downs on my Nexus 5 when the system was desperate for memory.

Luckily Android 5.0.1 seems to have resolved those issues for me and is running extremely smoothly.

What I would recommend doing in going into settings > developer options > process stats.



If your results look anything like this, I am pretty sure it is an Android 5.0 issue and the only that could temporarily fix it would be a reboot.

If your results are perfectly normal and you are still experiencing issues with performance a hard reset may be recommended.

In any case wait for Android 5.0.1, it fixes a lot of bugs.

It's been 2 weeks since I did the factroy reset and I'm using the same apps BUT the Facebook and the Messenger app and it's running smooth since then.

I tried the cache clear to no avail. I then went to the Hard Factory Reset and the system restored all of my applications on the clean Lollipop load. My NX7 is now running better than KitKat with two users assigned. I did have to re-add some apps for the second assigned user.

I think I must revert to Kitkat haiving twice cleared my cache partition and also having turned Location off. Should I first try to turn off Google Now? How do I do that? How do I reverse Lollipop installatino which I did OTA about one week back? Then of course install Kikat where lagging play of Breaking Bad Se

My tablet was horribly slow after installing the update, apps kept freezing, it was slow and frequently stopped responding completely. The keyboard took ages to load and was unresponsive. The browser was unusable. My device was basically unusable.

I tried several of the 'easier' solutions including clearing the cache and doing a reset of the device and nothing made a difference.

The only solution I found that worked was to flash my device back to Kitkat version 4.4.4 using the factory image. Google 'Nexus 7 Kitkat image'.

My device is now fixed, it is responsive, quick and working completely.

How difficult is this to perform? I might try it as cache partition wipes and factory resets haven't resolved my lag and freeze issues since taking 5.0 or 5.0.2 updates.
