Nexus 7 (2012) stuck in "no command" bootloop

I was stuck on the No Command screen a few times. On that screen, I accidentally push Power and Volume Up. A new menu screen came up that allowed me to do a Factory Reset easily.

I'm assuming I'm having problems as well after the update, however...I can't boot into bootloader mode, recovery mode or anything. i have start, (brings me back to stuck google screen when pressed),restart bootloader, (brings me back to dead android screen when pressed); recovery mode (back to stuck google screen), and off which powers off device. Ive tried using the toolkit but when I try to unroot and flash back to stock, it says, fastboot device not found. Any suggestions?

This doesn't work for my situation. It just goes to a black screen for a couple of seconds and returns to the google boot loop.

If your tablet is on, turn it off.
Press & hold the Volume Down button, then press & hold the Power button simultaneously until the tablet turns on. You'll see the word "Start" with an arrow drawn around it.
Press the Volume Down button twice to higlight Recovery mode.
Press the Power button to start Recovery mode. You'll see an image of an Android robot with a red exclamation mark and the words "No command."
While holding down the Power button, press the Volume Up button.

Use the volume buttons to scroll to "wipe data/factory reset," then press the Power button to select it.
Scroll down to "Yes - erase all user data," then press the Power button to select it.
Note: If your tablet becomes unresponsive at any point during the steps above, you can restart it by holding down the Power button for several seconds.

Thanks a ton. You saved me from a heart-attack. I've tried a 101 solutions but nothing worked. I was thinking that i'll never see my tab working but your solution finally saved me from a lot of troubles. Thanks once again. It worked for me in 4 attempts finally. Yaay!

I tried using the toolkit and it says ADB device not found. My device won't boot into recovery mode or bootloader mode...they just bring me back to a stuck google screen. Any suggestions?

Somehow when I enter 'fastboot flash boot boot.img', it says "FAILED. <remote: bootloader is locked>". I searched online about how to unlock bootloader and people said if you want to unlock it your data would be erased, is that true? is there a way around it? why did it said mine is locked... could it be other problems?

I am stuck in the bootloop and I don't have the drivers installed but this toolkit doesn't seem to work without installing them. I am not able to install the drivers as well. :'(:'(:'(:'(:'(:'(:'( Any way to bring my tab up???

Hi you all.

I have had the same problem ( nexus 7 stuck in No commannd boot loop). Manage to fix it twice. By pure luck. Here is what I did. When the green dude shows with the text No command, I stuck a needle in the tiny hole underneath the volume buttons, keept holding it down and started pressing the power button and kept them both pressed until the screen went black. Then I switched from pressing the power button to Volume - button without releasing the needle. After a few seconds it started booting like normal and I stopped pressing Volume - and removed the needle. No data was lost for any of my users.

Whole that this issue is solwed in Lollypop.

What model do you have? Have a 2012 and don't see a space below the volume. There is one in the back I tried doing what you said it booted to the green dude then rebooted taking a few seconds longer returned to the green guy. Have not been able to get passed the green guy

Don't get other options and there is no additional text beside the red triangle dude
HELP!!! please

Try when starting, hold in power button and repeatedly push volume down till you get to the boot loader screen, from there you should be able to load drivers from wugsoft toolkit, advanced settings, driver install button on top, follow the directions and don't skip any steps.

Hi - Just a quick thank you for your post.

I was stuck in a non boot boot-loop - going round and round in circles - Using the Android SDK I couldn't get the Nexus to respond via USB so couldn't use any of the other suggestions like side loading etc - Using the WugFresh tool to restore must use it's own driver to force communication - Once this had 'done it's thing' the tablet booted normally and then refreshed all of it's settings when I logged back in using my Google account

Thanks again

i solved it using these things

  1. Windows 7 Operating System PC
  2. WugFresh Nexus Root Toolkit (runs on Windows PC only) - Google "nexus root toolkit Wugfresh"
  3. Factory Images for Nexus published by Google - Google "Factory images for Nexus Devices"
  4. nexus 7 (1st generation 3G)

Wugfresh Nexus Root Toolkit is a SUPER AWESOME NEXUS REPAIR TOOL which has no superior alternative on MacOS or Linux or on Windows. I am personally a mac OS user. But for wugfresh i had to use windows and Wugfresh is simply awesome.

Wugfresh diagnoses your connected device; recommends any missing software driver to be installed if it cannot be found in your system; provides all relevant driver download links as necessary; takes you through simple and easy steps (with DETAILED explanations at each step) to get your nexus device working again.

Download Wugfresh from its official link above. It's latest updates are really well built, stable and very easy to use. Download the relevant Factory image for your nexus device from the official google link above. That's all you need to come out from this "No Command" bootloop on your nexus device.

I am using my device perfectly right now running Android 5.0 Lollipop. :)

I've just recently used the nexus toolkit to repair a "No command" bootloop. Using the toolkit I flashed stock+ unroot and it flashed the 5.1.1 os onto the tablet. Everything is working great, but for some reason now the 32gb of storage space (27gb free at the start of my troubles) is now reading as 6gb (with 4gb free to use) anyone else had any similar issues? Not sure how to go about repair it...wiping it again?

You need to boot into a custom recovery like TWRP and format the partition. This will force a factory reset. This can be done with Wugfresh.

I just want to thank all of you. This thread was really helpful. My Nexus 7 wasn't able to install the Marshmallow update successfully and after insist on trying to install the update Google sent via the device, it got finally soft-bricked/bootlooping.

Thanks to WugFresh Nexus Root Toolkit, I was able to resurrect the dead tablet and upgrade it from Android 5.1.0 to 6.0.1, and now NRT it's a super valuable tool for me to use to backup and do some more stuff.

Thanks to everyone!!! Greetings!

I had a similar problem, bootloop. I was trying to re-format through the device and it said failed to mount, failed ect... and just kept returning to the erasing screen followed by the android on his back with a red exclamation mark. I could Not return to the bootlogging screen and I did Not have USB debugging enabled. I downloaded Wugs or Wugfresh (Nexus Root Toolkit) and followed the driver tab instructions, rebooted and tried loading Google drivers and a bunch of others. Then in the Advanced Utilities tab I pushed Launch. In Quick tools I pushed reboot system, reboot bootloader, reboot recovery. I let the battery run out completely then plugged into charger and after 30 seconds to a minute held in power and volume down and finally got back into boot loader screen. Start ect... Then i hit Sideload update and the machine rebooted normally, I never completed the update but it got me out of the loop and back to normal.
