Nexus 7 (2013) hangs while copying movies

While dragging and dropping MP4 videos into my media folder on the nexus it starts to copy and then hangs and does not continue. If i then cancel the transfer, Windows Explorer is unresponsive until I disconnect the Nexus from the computer. It only seems to do this randomly, sometimes its fine, other times its not. My operating system is Windows 7.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Have you tried using a different cable or USB port?
What about using copy/paste rather than drag/drop?
How much content are we talking about (2GB; 8GB)?
