Nexus 7 (2013) Wi-Fi model and LYNC 2010 Client...!!!

I have Nexus 7 (2013) Wi-Fi model of tab, while I go to Google play store it does not allow me to download LYNC 2010 application. It says your device is not compatible with this.

I browsed through few search some forums including MS, I read that LYNC 2010 has been set with pre-requisite of requiring phone services. I tested side load and made this work but it isn?t the best route to go as one doesn?t get automated updates etc?These days we see more and more tabs coming with Wi-Fi only option and app like LYNC 2010 not supported is BIG FLAW. This is a very useful app, unfortunately I can?t use on my tab. I don?t see any logic of this application not being available for Google Nexus (2013) Wi-Fi model.

While this gets sorted out (hopefully), can someone guide as to from where I can download LYNC2010 APK for latest release (I believe Jun / Jul 2013 had latest update released) ---

yup the logic is Microsoft is blocking the app from getting installed on the tablet.
Looks like MS only want it to be installed on phone. The flaw is totally with them.

you could email MS support and ask them to enable it

A phone call is apparently an important feature of the app which obviously would not work on a wifi only tablet. I don't consider this a "BIG FLAW" at all. Microsoft knows how they want this app to work and you simply do not agree with them. You are always free to create your own app.

Here is my understanding ---

• The product is primarily focused towards corporate customers to provide internal and external IM/Video/Tele communication services.
• With many corporate customers moving towards using LYNC infrastructure for above services, availability of this app on tabs and smart phone adds lot of value for customers.
• MS has restricted installation of this app unless there is no phone services on device. However, I did a side load of the app and have no issues at all, I am able to perform all necessary features as any other devices. All I need is to connect in to my corporate LYNC account and I am all set.
• So my point is why restrict it, leave it for device owner - if they have phone services or supported by corporate services - great, if not – IM will continue to work.

BTW – I like your comment, “You are always free to create your own app.”

yeah, it is being restricted by MS. There is a response confirming this by Google support as well. This issue is raised by few others as well, I have sent an email to MS support - waiting to hear back.

From some search results, lync 2010 don't support VOIP, so if you call somebody, lync need use your native phone call.

AND I have downloaded the latest apk using Real APK Leecher, they can be installed to my N7, but there are some logging issues. If you need them, post me your email.

I was disappointed to discover this this week also. The phone restriction is dumb.. If I want to call someone, I'll call them. I thought it might be nice to use Lync on my tablet to IM when I'm not logged in on my laptop. The iPhone version is rather disappointing and I was hoping to compare the Android version,

I am told that LYNC 2010 doesn't support VOIP on smart phones, but this is available from LYNC 2013 onwards. However it seems MS still keeps phone service as pre-requisite for install. I hope MS looks in to it.

I have done side load of 2010 using APK, it is working quite well. Some logging issues on android 4.3 are resolved with latest release by MS.

No, a phone call is NOT a very important feature of this app. If I want to have a phone call, I'll use a phone and not Lync. It's an absolutely MASSIVE flaw for people who use this IM client for.... IM's!!!!

As for the solution is to write your own app, well, that's not a helpful response at all. MS screwed up on this and needs to fix it.

As a side note, I have a SIP client on my Nexus7 that works dandy - so I DO have phone capabilities. In other words, you are wrong about the phone feature not working on a wifi only tablet.
