Nexus 7 tablet has poor build quality.

I am done as well with ASUS, returned number 21 yesterday. It was a C70, very minimal screen rise but it had a flicker every minute or so when reading books or browsing, it literally gave me a headache to use the tablet.

Sorry but the quality of these are beyond pathetic.

Sucks for you that you can't find a good one.

There is the pulsing flicker issue I had and is also in a side by side YouTube video somewhere for maps. Then, there is the tegra screen power adjusting thing which might get mistaken for flicker. That's noticeable when watching a music video with lots of black and white or other changes, while in portrait mode. You can tell the display is adjusting which makes the white comment area seem to flicker but its not. Its different. It matches the video color changing. This also happens when scrolling text sometimes. One of the reasons I might root to turn it off if possible Won't have as good battery though

Any one that buys 21 of anything and claims that there all defective has issues. And the fact that each one is $200 makes it more of an issue. I wouldn't buy a second carton of eggs from the same farm if all twelve in the first were bad, unless I had more time than brains. I feel so bad for the poor guy that has to sell you a 40K car.

I didn't buy 21. I stopped at 10 actually. Yup I agree, it was pretty crazy. But I bought four at a time to save time actually.

Stop trolling we all know there are a lot of defective ones in circulation.

Every bit of evidence suggests that these "defective" units represent the minority of those sold..probably the extreme minority.

However, as with many cases in life, we rarely hear about the things that go right, and almost always hear about the things that go wrong. The many, many consumers that are happy with their N7's don't have any pressing urge to get online and share their experiences. Conversely, those that have problems (or are imagining they are, like our boy on here that supposedly bought 21 bad units in a row) will jump at any chance they can to piss and moan about what has gone wrong for them. You'll notice the exact same complainers show up on every single thread regarding the N7's build quality, performance, screen, etc. The near constant posts from many of the same people help create the impression that these devices are faulty more times than they aren't..that isn't the case.

So, has the Nexus 7 had some teething issues? Yes, there have been some problems, as often happens when products launch. Having said that, I would be very careful in saying there are "lots" of defective units being shipped. My guess is that they still only represent a small percentage of the tablets sent out. You've got to try to see beyond the misleading picture of things that Internet forums help create.

That's not trolling, dolt. I said sucks he can't find a good one. A lot of people did and he's gone through 20 without finding one.

The problem is not with the units he's getting.

The problems were indeed with the units I was getting. I literally ended up talking with the manager about the many returns and he was pretty much both shocked and amused at the same time that the build quality was crap, then he mentioned the new iPad but naww.

Is it my problem the screen is falling out? Is it my fault the screen flickers? I've had quite a few number of phones, tablets, tv's, ps Vitas and NDS and guess what, NONE of them had any flickering. NONE of them had a screen not fastened correctly.

You are implying good ones exist.

Talked to another friend of mine who bought a C70 and he said his was perfect, nothing wrong with it. It only had some serious screen rise and flicker and the sound sometimes would crackle in the headphone. But pristine build though he said!

Still would gladly bet all of the comments with perfect ones are subconsciously choosing to overlook the flaws. 21 might be nitpicking but I'd do that any day rather than settle for poor quality.

I think comments like "I know all of you are wrong stop denying it" precludes the fact that we are each looking at these things from different perspectives; what's wrong to one is not wrong to another, what's bothersome to me is not bothersome to you, and what's defective to one is overlooked by another.

The sweeping generalizations made do nothing for your cause, in other words, without understanding the subjectivity that you folks and everyone brings to the table.

And FWIW, mine has absolutely no screen lift, and if it does then I'm not seeing it and it doesn't affect me.

I am sorry to hear you have had such a bad experience.

That said, I would hate to see potential buyers deterred from purchasing because of a post such as this. My Nexus 7 is a C60 and I have not had a single problem with it. Probably the best $200 I have ever spent! I would encourage anyone who is thinking about buying a Nexus to pull the trigger and give it a try! It encompasses a perfect mesh of software and hardware, and if that was not enough a $200 price tag makes it an obvious choice for anyone in the market.

No issues here. I absolutely love this tablet. Either these guys are trolls or I'm just luckier than they are. Either way I'm happy lol.

Not a single issue here either, and I'm not overlooking anything. Was a great investment and I would do it again in a heartbeat, and I also recommend it to anyone looking to buy a tablet. If I can stop at least one person from paying the ridiculous price for an ipad I've done my job!

Have had not one issue related to hardware or build quality. And personally anyone that goes through more than 3 of these show a distinct lack of common sense. Why would you not check out any replacement device before taking delivery or picking one up?

And I doubt it's "just bad luck" for any individual to be on their 10th device due to "build quality". I personally think they are seeing what they want to see. Finding problems where there truly are none.

How in the world is going through more than three a lack of common sense? Should those who got defective devices accept them as defective? I've never seen a UPS driver stick around for you to inspect a device, and I'm not wasting other people's time by holding them up while I check one out in the store before I leave.

It's spectacular that yours is fine. I'm genuinely happy for you, and I really wish that I had the same experience. I personally tried four times and I can assure you that all were defective. I personally decided to stop trying. It shouldn't be viewed as unreasonable that somebody wants a device that isn't defective.

It may be a cheap tablet, but it's still $200 or $250. In my book, that's enough to expect that the glass isn't lifting out of the bezel (in my case), the screen doesn't flicker, etc.

For as much as you're tired of hearing about defective devices, those who can't seem to get ahold of a non-defective device are tired of hearing accusations that they are "seeing what they want to see."

Regardless if they are or are not "seeing what they want to see," they should stop going from the same "well" to get the same drink.

Yes, I completely agree. My first two were from Google Play. On a whim, I tried my local Walmart last week. They had just gotten their shipment, so I had high hopes, but those two had the glass lifting as well.

Since I've tried to own a few models of Asus tablets with similar results, I've simply resigned to the fact that I can't seem to get ahold of a non-defective Asus tablet and won't be buying any more.
