Nexus 7 tablet has poor build quality.

Wow, a lot of stupid comments in here. I'm on 20 now. Writing this on the 20th. They were all defective with blatant screen rise. The only trolls and liars in this thread are the ones who said they had no problems.

Tell you what, take a drive to Malone, NY. Bring your "perfect condition" tablet with you. I'll give you mine plus cover the gas of driving here. If it turns out it has screen rise you're out of luck. It's not my fault or the OP that you feel you need to lie just because you don't consider screen rise a defect or whatnot.

I love the tablet. Love the size. Love the NFC. Love the speed and new OS. HATE THE CRAP BUILD QUALITY.

You are only on number 20? I just finished exchanging number 43 yesterday. I bought all the N7 on south Florida and all of them have defects.

I've gone through 2 nexus, requested a refund of my money. They said they will email me in 5 days with instructions... I've called them back they said I'm still in the queue for a refund.... :what:

Must be a lot of people that want their money back also in front of you.

My first had pretty bad screen lift and a group of bad pixels. Thankfully my second has no bad pixels and the screen is firmly attached. I probably would have been willing to do the replacement process one more time if I had to.

I have a feeling the foam spacer on the left side on the inside pushed the screen loose before the glue was able to properly set on all those with the screen lift.

It took me 4 units before I got one without issues, so while I love the device itself I do agree that the quality is a bit lacking.

Nexus 7 backlight bleeding issue spotted

Here's one with lightbleed. If your device doesn't look like this, and you're still think you have light bleed, you don't.

Now THAT is backlight bleed. However, my guess is that 99% of the people that think they have backlight bleed don't have anything like this. They just don't understand the screen technology.

Take a look at the attached pic. That's an HTC One X (a device with one of the nicest screens in the world) on the left, with a GNex next to it on the right. Does it have backlight bleed too? Because it looks exactly as the four N7's I've had experience with do with a black screen. Again, people just don't understand the technology they have..they are confusing normal LCD performance with a defect.

And, no, this isn't my pic. Credit to whomever I stole it from.

ETA: And, frankly, my N7 shows a more consistent black than the One X seen below..

I'm in my one and only N7. It's been great so far. No issues with mine.

43 returns for a $250 tablet. Now that makes sense.....

I think he is kidding. He's making fun of the guy that bought 20. Or I sure as heck hope so.

Ya I dont believe you went thru 10 Warranty replacements. It sounds like we got a iSheep that lost it way.......Nexus 7 is not to be confused with the iTampon 2 (iPad):D

Why are you making fun of the iPad? I do think that android is better but as a phone but not as a tablet. My iPad 2 hasnt had one issue since i got it over a year ago and battery life still is the best ive ever had on any thing!

The Nexus 7 is far better than the iPad 2. Better than the iPad 3? Now that's the question.

I've not seen a single picture of a device that actually has backlight bleeding. Not one. What I HAVE seen are dozens of people claiming their device has backlight bleed because they don't have a clue how a backlit LCD screen is supposed to look...i. e. blacks are a dark grey, and NOT the true black seen on an AMOLED screen. My guess is that part of this is due to the large number of GNex and SGS3 users that have picked up this tablet..they are used to seeing AMOLED everyday. They see the screen is lighter on a black background (and maybe slightly more so over the LED backlights themselves), and they think the device is defective. It isn't. Or the vast majority aren't. That's why it was never spotted by the dozens, maybe even hundreds, of professional reviews that look at tech for a living.

If your device has backlight bleeding issues, please post pics. I've had four N7's pass through my hands, and not one has had the slightest issue in this regard. Since you claim to have had 10 defective devices, I'd assume you have pics of at least one problem of this kind.

I wouldn't be quite so cavalier about it. My first one had the LEDs that were supposed to be BACKLIGHTING the screen FRONTLIGHTING it. It looked like some little guys were standing off to the left shining little flashlights on the front of the screen and you could see the LEDs on the left side. It was pathetically, comically bad. The top left part of the screen was almost unreadable.

Fortunately #2 was much better but still, based on what I am reading here, I rather suspect that there were some initial hiccups in manufacturing.

Again, why does 20 seem like a high number? I told the guy after the 5th return I would like to just open the batches at the store and have him replace them one by one right there. We're not talking hundreds here. As soon as I opened one box and confirmed it was a crap one, we did the next one.

At the 21st it was a much higher number SSN and it was great. Turns out it has a slight lift top left side but that's ok. Doesn't mean it's perfect build quality, it's still horrible. I can live with the slight lift but the other 20 were insane.

Meh, I'd classify it as "ok" build quality if that's the only issue--a 1/5 mm raise on the left side ;).

Going through that many to find one good one? No. No way in hell would I do that. If you did indeed do that, why? You've elected yourself Google/Asus QC, and there are better things to do with your life than fuss with a $200 piece of electronics to find the one good one.

While I have my doubts as to your story, if it's true I have one comment. There are medications and therapies for disorders of this type. You should try them. You will be able to proceed with parts of your life that actually matter. :)

Had mine a week now and it seems fine. I'm not overly analysing it but in terms of using it like I do everything else I can't find any fault with it.

I ordered mine from Google and have been using it heavily for a week now. This is my first foray into Android devices as a long time iPhone user. So far, I'm pretty happy with it and haven't run across any of the defects mentioned in this thread. Keeping my fingers crossed. I'm definitely loving the customizations available under Android that the iPhone can't touch, widgets, app icon placement, not limited to 12 apps in a folder, and my favorite.... Setting alternative apps as launch defaults for various actions. I've got a Bluetooth keyboard case coming today or tomorrow and can't wait. Already got my waterproof case for logging / planning my SCUBA dives on the spot.
