Nexus 7 will lead Android tablets to overtake the iPad

I guess I'm wrong because my personal experience differs a bit from yours. Cool.

Let me rephrase, Apple people who are technology savvy love Android. Example: A woman who had the iPhone switched to the SGS 3 and loves it. Apple sued Samsung and made them remove the search feature. She was pissed at Apple, and did a Google search and found the apk to get the functionality back. She installed it and got the search functionality back. She didn't have to root either.

Do you know what she said? This is how it's supposed to work; I paid for this phone and it's mine. I should be able to do what I want with it without jail breaking it.

It doesn't matter if said person was/is an "Apple person". Android has the perception of being for the tech savvy so your story doesn't surprise me at all.

Are there sales numbers yet? I think it may be premature to say that the Nexus 7 blew up and took off just yet.

The same thing was said about the fire and it clearly hasn't affected iPad sales.

At this point it doesn't make a difference what the numbers are. The point is the marketing strategy worked. Get yourself a 16gb Nexus 7. You won't be able to. The name Google Nexus spoke for itself.

Actually, I called around yesterday. I can get one from a Staples nearby if I really wanted one. 16GB in stock.

No, the $199.00 and 249.99 price tag spoke for it. That's why the Kindle Fire is so popular. It's the same reason why last years HP TouchPad was popular once they dropped the price. And it's the same reason why a smaller, lower priced iPad will yield the same results.

Alright. Lol great.

Yeah that too, of course which I should have pointed out but you can't tell me the "Google" and "Nexus" name didn't contribute.

Popular yes, but it doesn't seem like it's affecting iPad sales right now.

I don't feel that the Nexus is a strong brand name yet- definitely not as iconic as "iPhone", "RAZR", or even "Kindle".

..just saying.

Lol, the N7 hasn't even been out a month yet. Why would it affect iPad sales now? Hence the subject line to this thread. Keywords "Will Lead".

Actually me experience is that indeed Apple users don't "understand" how things work. I know many Apple-heads so given the 4 out of 100 scenario I'm well above average. I'll share examples.

My brother needed to download software to his GPS. He used the unlock tool that took a minute to work but didn't actually download what he unlocked. He came to me. I downloaded the software and it took 20 minutes (entire US map data). He said "on the Apple it can download entire files instead of chunks so it only took a minute, it just didn't take for some reason."

Ex-girlfriend - if it didn't come pre-installed it doesn't exist

Neice - (age 9, smartest of all my examples) is learning the limitations of Apple and has fallen in love with my Nexus. She likes the iPad but realizes the Nexus screen is clearer.

Here's the breakdown
Linux users - like complexity and command line interface. They can create one click tools but choose not to unless dealing with Android because they know the masses need them.

Apple users - don't understand nor care to understand how things work, they just want them to. They then read information from the same source at the same time that all Apple users get it and feel smart.

Windows users - more varied due to sheer numbers. Many of them have no idea how to use a computer and break them often. The ones who are smart however rival the Linux crowd in liking complexity but they want one click tools to actually work. They then tell their friends how complex it was omitting that a tool did that work.

The post I replied to also mentioned the Kindle Fire and HP Touchpad.

I agree. I think the Google name carries more weight than the Nexus name right now. I also think that's why it's not called the Asus Nexus.

I'm just glad there is a stock Android tablet now. That's what sold me, and that's why I use my Galaxy Nexus the majority of the time.

Part of the problem is that it's not really GOOGLE that isn't installing those things on the phone, but the manufacturers. Remember, unless you're running a Nexus, Google had nothing to do with how the phone was set up. The manufacturers and carriers are the ones who need to set things up for simplicity (again, unless it's a Nexus device). Furthermore, Google does, in fact, have a QR reader called Google Goggles. No, it doesn't come installed on most devices. Again, that's not on Google, but on the manufacturer and carrier. They're too busy baking bloat into the phone to worry about things like including stock Google services. As to the file explorer, I agree. That should be something that comes stock on Android, baked right in, and easy to use.

Until the multitude of different manufacturers and carriers get their collective heads out of their butts, Android will continue to be a mess. Some of them do a better job of it than others on this front. This is something Apple doesn't have to deal with, as they control the hardware and the software. Google doesn't. They don't control the vast majority of the hardware, and since the software is OS, they really have very little control over that either. That's just one of the downsides to being open. Other people can screw up your perfectly good product. :p

Agree on some points there. Even with the Nexus however things aren't there that people need. I like the idea of getting apps as it keeps Google from being the next Microsoft. How long did it take for a browser to really compete against IE when it came installed. I really don't know the answer however. I hate set up wizards but perhaps that's the answer. People (newbies) need some sort of guide to tell them to download certain things for later use. It should ask if you want Avast or Lookout malware protection, do you want a file explorer, will you need use of a bar code scanner.

Even that kind of sucks, as I really HATE set up wizards.

At the very least the download tool should open an actual window and allow deletion. We can all agree on that I assume.

Can't we all stop the pissing match by the way. No one is going to convince the other anything. I'm trying to think of ways to improve android on this one.

I'm not an Apple fanboy or anything, but something that sticks out about Apple is the simplicity of it. My Mom loves her iPad and could pick up on it right away. She has troubles navigating around on Android due to so much openness to it.

I think thats where Apple shines. In keeping things simple for the non tech savy people. For me I love Android and probably will never go back to iOS, but do love my iPhone and the App Store they have. Also love how they only have pretty much one phone and one tablet. It keeps things simple. Where as Android is open to so many companies that it floods the market with crappy tablets and phones.

Just my two cents. Interesting debate though.

Honestly I think this reasoning is getting a bit stale (like iOS!!! Zing!!!). No seriously though. I switched from iPhone last year (was on iOS since 07) and had zero problems learning Android. It's not a huge difference when you initially fire up your device. I really don't understand why people think that Android is so difficult to utilize. In some ways its much easier and convenient than iOS. I no longer have to click two or three different icons just to turn wifi on. Just my thoughts, may be its just me.

It's a fact though. If you have facts post them. Have you been to the linux forums lately. They still love command line utilities. I remember reading post on how to set up the PS3 to use Linux (before it was removed of course). Every PS3 was the same so the instructions for everyone were identical. Why then didn't they build a version of Linux that did the set up on it's own. Why did it take 10 pages of code that had to be entered in order to get it work.

We have 5 generation devices that carry the Nexus name that has #Google, #Nexus, #Developer as hash tags amongst popular search engines.
Nexus One, Nexus S, Galaxy Nexus and now Nexus 7 with Nexus Q right behind it.

Uh. We've had a stock Android tablet before - the Motorola XOOM (WiFi-only).

The IPhone is specifically designed for people who don't know how to use technology at all Steve Jobs. The are numerous development document and memos to prove that. The iphone is not a toy, it's just dumbed-down. It's the Jitterbug of smartphones. And if android is for nerds, than over half the people who buy smart phones are nerds. Lol.

Figured I'd fix that for ya :D
