Hey guys, I'm in the market for a new tablet as my N7(2012) is really laggy. I think I'm down to the N9 or the Samsung tab pro 10.1. I've heard mixed reviews on both and its left me torn. Wanted to get your thoughts on the two tablets.

I will mainly use it for web browsing and media consumption. I worry about the 4:3 ratio of n9 and letter boxing. I'm also considered that 10" might be too big. I want something that will perform well.

The cost is close, the tab is $330 and the n9 is going for 349.

I currently have an S5 and have no complaints with touchwiz. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I'm totally spoiled with pure unadulterated Android and my Nexus 9. I don't deal well with Samsung bloat and OS updates that are months late. As always, Your Mileage May Vary.

Thanks, I hear ya, having the n7 and s5 at the same time really displays that. Although my s5 got lollipop not too long after my n7.

How do you like the screen ratio?

I really like the screen ratio. I always liked my sister in law's iPad screen ratio. Now I really see why Apple chose it. Internet browsing is much more pleasurable. Kindle reading blows my Nexus 7 totally away.

My screen is superb and I don't even think about letterboxing when watching videos. Light bleed on the edges is virtually non existent. This is the best IPS screen I've ever owned.

I would say n9 without a doubt! I can't handle Samsung and touchwiz anymore. Not to mention never getting updates.

I wasn't sure how I'd like the aspect ratio of the device but now I find it hard looking at my old n7 2013. The n9 makes viewing the web enjoyable, not to mention reading books and gaming.

My thoughts exactly. I much prefer the 4:3 aspect ratio. The black bars in a video don't distract from viewing at all IMO, and the it is better for everything else that I do like email web and all. 16:9 should be reserved for phones only as far as I'm concerned.

I can't comment on TouchWiz since I've never really used a Samsung device, but the 5.0+ experience on my N9 has been pretty disappointing. Lag, stutters, popular apps that STILL can't play nice with this new update (looking at you Hulu). I honestly wouldn't switch just for the "pure" Android experience, because it ain't all that great. At least not yet.

The aspect ratio of the screen, and the screen itself, are very nice. And I don't want to leave out the front facing speakers. However, the wonky volume rocker is as bad as you've heard. Sure, there are allegedly some rogue units out eye with acceptable keys, but I think those are far and few between.

Good luck with your purchase!

One huge advantage for videos, the front speakers are very clear for movie dialogue. Even low talking is clear, even with room fans blowing in the background. I don't think any review mentions that big plus.
