Nexus 9, overhyped flop

I do not think it is "overhyped" granted Android fans may have overhyped it. To be honest the main issue is price, I feel for what you are getting it should be in the $339 range for the 16GB and $399 for the 32GB. When you charge the amount people are paying for this device they expect a premium product, and it is very close but not quite there.

I've kind of went through the same thought process. I could not find a better offering for the $399 starting point. Taking into account the screen size to price ratio, the software and hardware performance, media consumption performance, and the Web browsing /E-book reading experience, I saw no better value for the money in any other 16GB tablets.

I have been wanting to get the Nexus 10 since last Fall to replacing my aging HP Touchpad (Cyanogenmod Android) but a new version was never released. Then the N9 came out this fall, finally. I was a little sad that it was not a 10 inch screen but bought it anyway.

After 1 day of use I could no longer tell the screen size difference.

The N9 is sleek and fast, I am really liking it. I don't care about a little give in the back, I put on a slim case because I like the smart cover feature and also how the cover doubles as a stand.

If you are on the fence about buying, try it out somewhere. Like it? Buy/keep it. Don't like it, take advantage of the return policy and try something else. ☺

All the tabs except the Nvidia which I have yet to see in a store, are showing 399. And that's too much for all of them, to me. But I saw Samsung 8.4 on sale for 349 at BB the other day, and traded in my old 10.1 to get the 100 off deal at BB. Considering that I paid 500 for my original 10.1 many years back, maybe we shouldn't complain too much. But the Nvidia looked like a decent option for the less money...if I could have seen one.

honestly it's not even close to the quality it has to be to ask the $ they are for this thing. it has the feel of a $100 wal-mart special tablet (build quality wise).:(

What your view of quality may be different from someone else. Many feel if its not all aluminum or metal it's not good quality. Me personally I like the soft back feel of my nexus 7 and nexus 5. I also feel its good quality.

Me too! I love my n7 and n5. nice soft grippy back. Made of plastic but I also feel they are well built and good quality. I wouldn't even want an electronic device made of Aluminum or any metal for that matter. No matter what it is made of the n9 is definitely not built like an almost $500 device that's for sure

I can look pass the light bleed and flappy back easily and Nexus 9 looks gorgeous to me.

My biggest grip is the laggy and stuttering performance and poor battery life, especially when using a browser. It can take a full 3 or 4 sec to return to home screen and right now, the words are lagging by 2 sec while I'm typing. I get about 4 to 4+ hrs SOT if I'm just mainly surfing on browser.

People always say Samsung devices are lousy and slow due to touchwiz and bloatwares. But my 1 yr old Note 3 is thrashing my brand new google flagship Nexus 9 at this moment. It's really pretty sad.

I found that the new nexus 9 to be great software and hardware wrapped in a cheap package. I sent mine back and got an iPad air 2.

I plan on relooking at the Nexus 9 this spring when it should be under 300.

Until then my nexus 7 will be my nexus test system.

LOL great username!

Agree its a solid tablet, there's no denying the build issues, I'm on my second N9 and still not without some build issues (the back has a sticky paste noise when pushing near the volume rocker).

But in terms of feeling solid, it does. I like the soft touch back, far more than the faux leather stitched back and way more than a metal back.

That said, it couldve easily been more solid with a few tweaks and its a shame it wasn't but hopefully if anything it showed the shortcomings off to other OEMs and will position 2015 tablets better.

The lag seems to be more of a software issue than a hardware issue. I have the same lag and stuttering issues on my Nexus 5 with Lollipop. I'm a fairy quick texter, and when I text or type on my N5, my fingers outpace the letters that appear on the screen. When I text too fast, it lags and stutters trying to keep up.

The only nexus devices I ever bought were the heavily subsidized and low priced ones. The reason for that is because they were well specced but of questionable hardware quality.
The rock bottom pricing made me forgive the lackluster quality. Now they're selling them at premium pricing but haven't stepped up the quality.
The vendors who make the nexus devices for Google don't really seem to give a crap about how they turn out and it shows.

What was wrong with the hardware quality of the N7? case solid; buttons fine; and no light bleed that I ever noticed.

I have a Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Nexus 7 (2013) and Nexus 9. I'm very pleased with the quality of both the hardware and software on all of them.

The problems are extremely well documented all over the internet. For $250 I didn't really care. At $400 and up I start to care about premium quality

Exactly! The small bit of light bleed and touch screen problems that many n7's suffer from was excusable at the price point, but the n9 is way too much money to be having this many hardware issues.

I am also happy to see the price drop. I might pick up one again when it gets to $300 (or less). I enjoy my ipad Air 2, but prefer Lollipop to IOS. Also I hate just having the one button for everything.

Agree ... As an early adopter I may also pick a new one up once they hit $300 and eBay my original unit. If I get $150-$200 for it then I can stomach the repurchase especially since I like the N9 and Nexus tablets for daily use. For phones I am less picky on the Nexus branding.
