Nexus Imprint

I love it, both index fingers imprinted. Also being able to use it for purchases on the Google Play Store instead of remembering my password, yes please!

Another benefit is not having to worry about loser shoulder surfers trying to snake my PIN or unlock pattern.

I already lifted yours from the glass you were holding. I was getting a kink in my neck the old way trying to peer over your shoulder

I love the imprint, I started out by registering both index fingers. I was noticing a fair amount of misreads, but that had more to do with how I gripped the phone. I was using the lower portion of my index finger instead of the upper pad more than not. I solved it by registering the lower portion of my index finger as well. Now I rarely get a misread.

Question... Is there a way to just have imprint as my security feature and not have a code this way there is no way to access the phone without my fingerprint????

From what I understand, no. At least one of the reasons for this is if you cut, or even burn, your finger badly, you'll be unable to unlock the phone. Another issue would be if the fingerprint sensor happened to fail.

So what does everyone think of the fingerprint scanner? I really like being able to unlock the phone that way.

You can debate the rear location, but I prefer that to the front. Seems pretty reliable, too. No issue with false negatives. Set it up w/both my right and left index fingers.

I did both index fingers also. It is awesome IMO. Love the fast response of unlocking this phone in 1 second!

If you're that worried, put a very strong password in place.

Agreed - only having the fingerprint scanner would be dangerous. Use a long and unique password as a backup, and document it someplace safe. These phones have only been out a short time - what if it turned out that the fingerprint scanners had a manufacturing flaw and like to fail after 6 months or something?

It took some gettng used to more than I thought it would. Now that I've been using the phone for a few hours, I really like it. It's probably the fastest I've used, and I like how it unlocks and goes straight to your homescreen without having to hit the power button.

I just used it with Android pay at Walgreens and it worked very well. One of the things I liked about the Iphone with Applepay is you don't have to unlock your screen. The Nexus 6P's fingerprint scanner is so fast that it almost works as fast as the Iphone using Applepay, even though you have to unlock the screen to use it.

I'm curious if one was using Android Device Manager or another device administrator such as Mobile Iron, and you exceed a certain number of unlock attempts on the fingerprint sensor, could it trigger a device wipe?

Maybe ADM is unrelated to too many failed unlock attempts resulting in a data wipe, but the question still remains. Could too many accidental touches result in a data wipe?

I just tried it on my 5X (with device manager enabled) and after about ten failures, it temporarily disables imprint and makes you enter the PIN. No threat of data wipe.

I really like it but I really wish it worked with screen lock apps. Apparently this is an issue inherent to Android 6.0 where apps that turn your screen off (so you can link them to a gesture) don't work the same as physically hitting the power button and I have to use my secondary lock method to unlock the phone. Only annoyed because if it had worked the way I was expecting I would finally have a way to both lock and unlock the phone without using any physical buttons (which is great for cases that make buttons not so easy to press)

Still really nice though. I'm honestly not that concerned with security though. I just like being able to tap the back of the phone to wake it up.

Ok, probably a stupid question here, but I notice on a lot of the early review 6p videos and even the one on page 1 of this thread (5x vs iphone), when the person users nexus imprint to unlock the phone, the home screen shows immediately and that's it.
What I'm finding on my 6p, is that I MUST use another lock method (pin, pattern or password) that comes on after I use the fingerprint method to unlock the phone? I thought the whole point was to unlock your phone with the fingerprint method and your ready to go, no need to unlock the phone yet again??

Am I missing something in the setup? thanks...

Interesting because I have an S6 and use the fingerprint log in. I did not know it does not work for all android phones with a fingerprint scanner. Hope they start adding this to all the android apps. I have it on 6 to 8 of my iPhone apps, and hope it goes mainstream.

That should only be on first login after a reboot. After that it should be fingerprint only.

If you are having to use another lock method every time, it means your fingerprint is not being recognized. As someone else stated, it should only be the first time after turning the phone on/rebooting (actual power cycle) that another lock method is required.

I was skeptical when I first saw the placement. I just picked up an iPhone 6S Plus. I like the front/bottom placement on the regular sized iPhone, but for the Plus, I wish it was on the back. When I pull the phone from my pocket, my index finger is always on the Apple logo. Shifting down to Apple's home button is awkward with a large phone.

Light-years better than the Galaxy s6 finger scanner which gave me negative reads often. This one has yet to not match my finger and the one touch unlock is nice. Adjusting to the back placement at the moment

I set mine up with my big toe on my right foot. Zero issues, the screen unlocks before I can even pick it up off the floor. So fast.
