Nexus vs Droid Razr (Unbiased)

Objectively, the nexus has better specs all around and it's, well, a Nexus. The RAZR Maxx has a better battery, a slim design, hugely better radios, and a passable screen. (The actual internals are very similar)

Deciding between them is entirely subjective. The negatives of each may not be a big deal for individual users. It all just depends what you're looking for in a device. Personally, if the Maxx had a 720p screen it would be my perfect device. Actually quite interested to see what Motorola comes up with for the HD.

I have the GNex, my wife and my daughter have RAZRs. After being spoiled with my Nexus I cannot stand even holding their RAZR's in my hand. The RAZR is ultra thin, but extremely wide. They don't feel balanced in my hand the way my Nexus feels. Don't be swayed by RAZR trolls, the Nexus is probably the best phone on Verizon, maybe a VERY close second to the SGIII. Nothing beats a bone stock OS. Nothing.

Having a battery that can make it through a full day does. And the ICS update on the razr is 99% stock.

As great as some of these answers are, you aren't going to get the "experience" until you simply go to a store and hold them both and play with them. Doing that very same action, I ended up with the Nexus, easily. But your needs could be different, and you could end up with the Razr. Neither is bad; just one will probably fit your lifestyle and design preferences better.

Uh what about the radios??? Samsung radios SUCK hands down worst reception I had ever gotten with any phone

Compared to the service my Droid X got, the Galaxy Nexus I'm holding is easily better. As for build quality, parts are literally falling off of my Droid X after less than a year of fairly normal usage.

If you like your Razr, that's great. Really - it's a great phone. But your posts seem to be anything but unbiased, which isn't necessarily bad. Just try to realize that what is the best device for you may not be the best for everyone else.

The OP doesn't want a MAXX, though. I've owned the RAZR before, and the battery life is comparable with the Nexus. In the Nexus' favor is the fact that the battery can be swapped out at a moment's notice for a fully charged one if needed.

It's great that the RAZR has ICS, but when will it get Jelly Bean?

If you have horrible signal, get a new nexus. I've seen ones with bad signal, but the one I'm using is solid, even on jelly bean. As far as the battery argument...well there really is no argument if you're comparing it to the razr maxx, but as far as the regular razr goes, I think the Gnex has it beat. The Razr might get a little longer in battery life, but you don't have the option of switching it out for a spare.

I'm on the normal battery, jelly bean rom and I'm at 13% battery after 10 hours and 2 hours screen time in a 4G area....so carry a spare and times that by two and you should be more than covered as far as battery goes.

Funny I had a RAZR Maxx, it never could get a 4g or a wifi signal from my apartment even if I placed the phone right next to the router or window. No such problems with my Nexus. They are both great phones. If you want a battery pick the MAxx if you want a screen pick the Nexus. I wouldn't choose the non-MAXX Razr, though.

I wanna see proof of that. Motorola is know for having some of the best radio and gps in the industry. Highly doubt it was worse that a company known for bad radios.

Remember, sometimes our opinions are based on our personal experiences. While this might mean we have bias, it does not necessarily invalidate a logical, objective claim. :)

Would love to show it to you, but I traded it for a nexus. My Razr then died the next day. I had nothing but gray bars on the Maxx in my apartment and it would constantly drop signals at various times during the day in other locations. By far the single worst phone for drops of any phone I have ever had.

The truth; the phne radio worked fine, That is actually made by Motorola. The Qualcomm radios didn't work fine. I guess in your small world everything works perfectly, but guess what they dont always.I have never had any phone that had as many drop with data and none other then the MAxx that had an actual Wifi signal problem.

Let's keep this on point. There's a lot of truth to be had with an objective discussion :-)

Wow. Been a while since posting in the general forums. Why is everyone so uptight? Dang. Goosefrabba or whatever, lol.

Anyway, I'm one of those users that have no issues with signal on my Nexus. I didn't from launch day until a few months after, then I did suddenly. Don't know why, and didn't wait around to find out. I did what I've done with every mobile device I've ever owned... allowed it to live to its potential.

If software is a considering factor, there really is no better choice than a Google device. Yes, a Nexus. The development community is ALL OVER THIS. To me (maybe not the OP), it is very important.

Now, I recommended the maxx to my girlfriend. Why? She simply does not use her phone the same way that I do. For her, I believe it was the best option available at the time.

Since software is very important to me, I will always have a Nexus device, as long as that option is available.

To each their own. I wouldn't think less of anyone with a completely wack ampersand double s device ;) :D

My experience having a Gnex for 6.5 months is that it consistantly cut the mic on my end. This after 3 handsets, and waiting for the 4.0.1 update. I loved the phone and hung in there until I could not take it anymore.
Have the Razr now. It works great as a phone, screen looks fine, it is clunky to hold, and I miss the panorama function of the camera.
Very reluctant to give up my nexus. Had I not needed it as a phone I would have kept it.
Overall I am very happy with the Razr especially since it now has ICS.

Motorola is so unfriendly to the modder/root community with their lockdown policies. Its like they are flipping the bird at us. I am heavily in the root mod camp but regular folks probably could care less.

I flip the bird back at them by not buying their products.

I've had a RAZR for awhile and just recently upgraded my wife to a Gnex. I love my RAZR, but I am really starting to eyeball her gnex. I really love the pure Android, and I am a compulsive tinkerer, so I have been struggling with the temptation to talk her into swapping me, even though she absolutely loves it lol.. And no, I don't have a MAXX.. This battery lasts 7+ hours on average, and it seemed a bit silly to spend an extra 100$ to avoid the minor inconvenience of occasionally plugging my phone in

If I were buying a phone today I'd lean towards the S3 over the Nexus. The S3 has some small improvements over the S3 but it's otherwise similar. The S3 is saddled with a Samsung skin instead of pure Android but there are already Jelly Bean ROMs for the S3 so it should be possible to run Jelly Bean if you don't mind rooting the phone. Verizon has been terrible about providing updates for the GN so we've been forced to at least do hand installs of the updates rather than wait for OTA updates which defeats the purpose of having a Nexus phone.

I would never buy a phone that doesn't have a replaceable battery, that goes double for an LTE phone which sucks power. The battery that comes with the Nexus is grossly inadequate but it doesn't matter because you can buy a 3800ma battery for the Nexus for $20. The Razr MAXX is only 3300ma and you can't replace it. I don't know if the 3800ma battery is available for the new S3 but I'm sure it will be, from the pictures it appears that the S3 uses the same battery as the Nexus so it's just a matter of time before they make a battery cover for the S3 and sell the same big battery.

The Nexus has a higher resolution screen than the Razr, that's another plus for the Nexus. The S3 has the same resolution screen as the Nexus but it's slightly bigger which should make it easier to read. The S3 also has 2G of RAM instead of 1G which should future proof it from longer than the Nexus.
