NFL Mobile MAY Not be Free for Your 4G Device! CHECK YOUR BILL!

Contrary to the information I had seen here about NFL Mobile being free for this season on 4G devices, and, the advice to call and have the charge removed if they inadvertently charge me, they charged me. Ten dollars/mo for the VCast subscription that is required to watch the NFL Mobile.

I was informed by a VZW Rep tonight that he was "sorry for the misunderstanding" but in order to get NFL Mobile, even on 4G devices, I still must pay the $10/mo VCast fee. I asked him to remove my VCast subscription which he did. And I also asked for a credit on my account for the $10 they collected in my most recent bill for VCast (month in advance). He refused to credit the $3.67 fee for the pro-rated time I was subscribed.

So... be warned. If you signed up for NFL Mobile under the pretense that it was free this season... it's not.

What the Rep said is that if you are on a 3G device, not only do you have to pay the VCast $10/mo but also have to pay independently for each and every video/game that you watch. He said "that" was the part that was free this season for 4G devices. Lesson learned, for $3.67. Glad it wasn't more.

Uninstalling it now.

Re: NFL Mobile Not Really Free for 4G Devices!

Still free for me, but I never signed up for vcast.

Summary: NFL mobile, including video = free for 4g devices. V cast, not free, possibly a waste of money.

Re: NFL Mobile Not Really Free for 4G Devices!

I just signed up last week and it never indicated that I'd be charged. Logged into My Verizon now and there are no new charges.

If they do charge, it's false advertising as per their website: http://sponsorship.verizonwireless.com/nfl/nfl_mobile.html

"GET NFL MOBILE FREE ON ALL 4G LTE DEVICES**

**Verizon Video monthly access fee waived for NFL Mobile during 2011-2012 NFL Season on 4G smartphones. Video subscription required for video content on all non-4G smartphones."

Thanks for the link. On the phone with another Rep now... showed him your link... will post back...

Edit: THANK YOU! The link you provided (and I provided to the Rep, this time) was what it took. This Rep apologized for the last Rep's lack of knowledge on this subject. Apparently this is all supposed to be transparent to the 4G device user. This Rep thought that the reason this might have happened to me is because I signed up using an older version of NFL Mobile (version 4 he said). He said I need to sign up using version 5 and that version should recognize the promo. So, while he was still on the phone, I downloaded NFL version 5.3 and installed it and tested it. All went well. Side-note: Gotta love voice/data at the same time! :)

Anyway, thanks again. Man... some peoples kids! What a PITA.

Re: NFL Mobile MAY Not be Free for Your 4G Device! CHECK YOUR B

Whew, thanks for confirming that. I was a little worried there was some gotcha and that it didn't get charged to my account yet. I had signed up using the 5.2 version so that explains why it never said anything about charges.

On a side note, I watched a game today on DirecTV's Sunday Ticket (To Go) and later the Sunday night game via NFL Mobile. Wow, what a difference! NFL Mobile video and audio are SO much better and the stream starts immediately! Sunday Ticket always struggles to start the stream (usually get errors and have to repeatedly try before it finally takes), when it does, the video is kind of grainy and the audio is low. They really need to work on getting their backend systems up to speed to handle the load. It's not as if they don't have the money! Grrr  Anyway, the price some of us choose to pay to follow ANY game! :p

So does that include the live games. What I understood is that videos would be free, but MNF and other live games would require a vcast subscription.

I've had this app since last season. No charges on my bill.

I guess I'll let you know on my next bill. :) AFAIK, it does include the live games.
