Besides the fact it hasn't actually been announced so that info isn't necessarily accurate, why is that surprising?

There wasn't an 8/64 GB model for the 5 or 5T either. Two SKUs is enough. In this case, the 6/128 GB so they can say "starting from $xxx" and the 8/256 GB model which has a maximised profit margin.
