No audio over HDMI

I picked up one of these Mediabridge - Micro-HDMI to HDMI cables (Amazon.com: Mediabridge - High Speed Micro-HDMI to HDMI Cable with Ethernet - 6ft - Motorola Droid X - HTC EVO: Electronics) to use with my Charge. The picture looks great on the TV, but no audio from the TV (the audio stops playing from the phone speaker when the cable is plugged in). I don't see any settings for this, and I've seen some other posts by people saying they don't get audio when they connect via HDMI.

Is this a known problem? Any idea if a fix is coming for this, or if there are any workarounds?

I'm curious about this as well now that I see your post. I just ordered a cable yesterday. Has anyone else seen this issue?

This issue has been discussed in thread link below. I would also search around in your TV settings to see if there is a setting to let the TV know that you are using an HDMI for cable for audio. I know my Time Warner DVR cable box has a setting that needs to be set on HDMI.

Of the 22 user reviews I don't see a review on Amazon yet where this cable has worked with the Charge. Doesn't mean it won't but if someone has had success with that cable brand using their Charge then it might isolate your issue to your TV setting or your TV brand might be incompatible with that brand of cable.

You could always buy the Dell branded Monster HDMI micro to HDMI 6 foot cable off Amazon for $89! That's a pretty amazing price isn't it?

It could also be a cable compatibility issue because many other posters have no audio issue through their TV. Not all HDMI cables are alike. I ordered one from Monoprice.com for like $6 with shipping. They make good cables. Many sites sell the cable for $14.99.
Mine has not arrived yet, so I can't test it for compatibility.
But read the thread:

The thread you linked is about audio over the 3.5mm jack.

Audio works fine over HDMI for my PS3.

Thanks for pointing out my error to the thread link. I edited it.

That HDMI audio issue that I had read and was referring to as being discussed was under the Charge accessories forum.

You might find more answers too if you use Google for searches because it covers all Charge forums.
I had questions before I ordered my HDMI cable because I had read in other forums that users were not only having HDMI compatibility issues they were also issues with their particular brand of TV not sending the audio or even video through.

You might want to just bring your cable and Charge to a store like Walmart or Bestbuy and try it out on various brands. Don't forget when you try a TV in a store you might need to use the TV's remote to change the input (and maybe the audio menu input method too).

My cable should be here on Monday (the one that came last week was wrong because I ordered mini not micro) and I'll report back as I have 5 different flat screens of varying brands to test out the HDMI cable on. From what I've read the Sony Bravia is one model that has been giving off issues but that might be just for certain years.

I also have a couple of PS3's which I bought fore their ability to stream Netflix in Dolby 5.1.
Next week that powered converter device that I ordered from Amazon to stream Netflix to RCA's on hotel TV's will arrive too, so I should be able to isolate most any HDMI related issues shortly.

But do try the HDMI to a TV testing in a store rather than waste your time with any customer service reps over the phone as most are clueless (even if you could find one that talks English :D).

Same boat here... no audio with HDMI out to my HDTV. Tried two brands of cables. One from monoprice and another one from gizmogorks. My TV is a Sony Bravia. Video works fine but no audio out from any app :( Also tested on a friends vizio... didn't work. So if anyone has a specific setup that is working please post the specs of the specific cable and the TV model for comparison. From reading other posts with similar problems, its sounds like Sony HDTVs are my problem. Their has got to be a work around without buying a new TV.

I have the Samsung Charge and got my cable from Verizon when I purchased phone. It will not play Netflix but will play personal video from phone. So from info I have gotten so for is that some programs have a lock on them so you can't view on tv and record movies seen through phone. So simply my phone and cable work together like they should its actually the company you are trying to use if you run the test I did and it worked without any problems. So basics use your phone to make a small video, then hook up phone to cable and tv. Start your video you just recorded and see if it works before you give up all hope and alot of time running all over. Now for me I have to call Netflix and get code so I can watch it on my tv. Hope that helped anyone that still was having problems.

I think this is definately TV specific... We bought 7 droid charge phones in my family
and we have 6 TV's that the sound is working on and 2 that are not working...
Working are Sharp, Samsung, and Magnavox... Not working are JVC, Phillips, and Sony...
I spent hours on the phone with Verizon and Samsung and was told that it was a
license issue, but from reading that some ppl were getting theirs to work I tried it
on my Sharp TV... Same phone and same cable worked on all programs (HBO GO, Dish Remote,
TV.com and Video Player)...

HDMI cable came today. Plugged it into 3 different Samsung TV's and a 50 inch Panny plasma. No issues with any. Picture looked great with full sound too over each TV's speakers.

I bought the cable from Monoprice.com They always deliver a quality product for a decent price. Great customer service too. I orignally ordered from another company that sells cables off Amazon (Better Stuff Lower Price) big mistake, stay away. I waited 3 weeks and they never sent the cable. Replacement order finally came and it was 1/2 the diameter (crap cable) of the Monoprice cable ($4.99).

For only $4.52 each when QTY 50+ purchased - 6ft 34AWG Standard Speed w/ Ethernet Micro-HDMI (Type D) to HDMI (Type A) Adapter Cable - Black | Micro-HDMI to HDMI Cables

Still waiting for the delivery of the powered converter to use on some motel TV's without HDMI.
