No Desktop Charger? Really?

It is now over a month since I purchased my GN and the very cool desktop and car charges are still no where to be found. How is that possible? I am sure that if I bought a Iphone4S I could have my choice of 10!

Accessories are a bid deal in making the phone more convenient, especially when it sucks batteries like the GN!

Does anyone have a real date for the official Samsung accessories? This information should not be confidential....

I run with my gnex sitting on a treadmill... Its fallen off 2 times in a row now (first time I partially stepped on it). No damage to the phone (the vw case is awesome!). When I used my thunderbolt, I set a weighted desk charged on the treadmill and it never moved. Was a great running tool for me. I've dusted off the ipod nano and started running outdoors again. I won't use the treadmill until I can get a desk charger where I can watch netflix (makes the runs go much faster).


As for the battery. Using the stock battery in a 4G area I have no issues making it through a work day and then some (I work 11.5-13.5 hour shifts). I am a power user, too. I use about 11GB a month.

I am also waiting for the desk top dock and car dock that use the charging contacts. It seems like someone is missing an opportunity to sell some gear.

The spare battery dock won't work, but it does fit the phone.

Just a heads up to the OP...

Came across this today. Keep your eyes open in the very near future. Hopefully its not just the international one brought over and doesn't fit... might want to wait until there is a model number for one in the stores before you go order it.

I think the idea is to have the screen always on... not sure why you would want to shut the screen off... anyways, dock-mode may have a button on the screen to do that... but likely not.

The picture is of the landscape dock that uses the charging contacts, but the text description is for the portrait dock that uses the USB port. The most obvious difference is the "The right side of the cradle features an HDMI female port.." but also the part about using it in portrait or landscape. The landscape dock lacks an HDMI port and, looking at the pictures of it, would not be able to keep the GN against the contacts if you tilted the whole thing on its side.

It will be interesting to see which part of that page is wrong.

I think the idea is to have the screen always on... not sure why you would want to shut the screen off... anyways, dock-mode may have a button on the screen to do that... but likely not.

On my OG droid and the Bionic while i had it, i used both of them in charging docks at my bedside. I would normally hit the power button to shut the screen off when i fell asleep, then when i wake up i would hit the power button and instantly know what time it was. Just didnt see the point in leaving the screen on all night while i was asleep.

I spoke to samsung today to express my frustration with their lack of accessories. I did my best to get an answer as to why its taking them soo damn long to get them out, but all i get was the scripted "i am sorry but we do not have an official release date for the charging dock, but please check our website for product availability". Well that doesnt sound promising....

What happened to the landscape desktop dock with the power bullets that they Andoroid Central showed off in December? I don't like the idea of cramming a USB connector in and out of the phone 20 times a day. Plus I like the landscape desktop display when working at my desk.

Honestly, this is a type of Android fragmentation that nobody is talking about. I can buy 50 Iphone docs/cradles/amplifiers/(you name it) because EVERY iphone uses the same accessories. I have a great desktop dock I bought with my DroidX that is worthless since i bought the GN.

Think about the 3rd party accessory manufactures. Which platform provides the best revenue opportunity? Iphone wins this one hands down.

(btw - i am NOT an Iphone fanboy, but I am get frustrated when I walk into staples and see 200 cool accessories for an iphone, and ZERO for any droid)

^ Agreed. Even the Droid Series had several OEM accessory option at launch day though. Why the hell doesn't the Nexus / Samsung have anything available for docking needs? Why would you include the POGO (3 gold pin) charging ports if you weren't going to make accessories to take advantage of them? That is a BIG selling point that this phone has, where are the marketing people? Most people don't even know the Nexus has this great feature, and those of us that do know it cant utilize it. FRUSTRATING!! Give me something to spend my money on Samsung, get with the program...
