No Flash at launch!

I have said for sometime that this is a $600 tablet at best. The past few weeks just continue to point that out.

I am sure many people will buy this with the anticipation of the promised features. I don't agree with that strategy, make them deliver a product in full becore you pay full for it. Usually early odopters get it up the &#@$ because they are so excited to be the first to a product. Now they aren't even getting the full product.

Vote with your wallet and don't buy the soom until the features are there and it is reasonable priced for the features it delivers at the time of sale.

You can buy the Xoom and not be a fanboy. What you can't do, in my book, is defend that lack of Xoom, SD, 4G and activation requirement for the $800 pricetag.

The Nook Color is a good tablet for some people, but I would point and laugh at someone who proclaims it is nirvana.

So you're basically pissed the "ultimate" tablet will not be as ultimate as it should be at launch. That stuff will come, no doubt, but it does suck that they wont be available Thursday. I think people defending the XOOM have a point. It will still be amazing on Thursday, just a little half-baked, which takes a little of the fun out of it. It's still the device we know and (for the most part) love. I don't think anyone here is saying Motorola is in the right releasing it without those features, though.

I think, with all of the features enabled, it is worth the price. It's $70 more than the iPad of the same level. Makes sense to me. People are pissed off that there arent any more price points.

But it isn't the ultimate tablet. Until the features that make it the ultimate tablet are available.

I really don't understand you logic here.

If it came out with 4G, SD and Flash on release day then all I would have to complain about is that the ultimate tablet is on the market but it is overpriced. But it does not have these things so it is not the ultimate tablet.

It is just another contender until the ulitmate tablet comes out.

I agree, and people want it so bad, but they cant afford the $800! so they just piss and moan about it.

That's exactly what I said. The ultimate tablet wont be as ultimate as it can be at launch. I think we both agree on this.

I think we're both a little disappointed, for sure.

I think the iPad is way overpriced and I know many of us have said that for a very long time. So to compare the price of this Xoom to the iPad doesn't work as a valid argument for me.

But we will see how it does at that price point and if it does sell even 75% of the desired 800,000 units in the first quarter of sales then I don't see how I can say that the price was too high. But I have a feeling that outside of the early adopters $800 will be a bit too high.

You said

It is like releasing a box and saying that eventually the box will have a button that will cure cancer. Until the botton works, it is just a box. Until the Xoom has the features that make it the ultimate tablet it is just another tablet.

I am saying it is not ultimate at all right now. Mild difference, but I think important.

The iPad is not overpriced, so agree to disagree.

The thing is, the XOOM will do more than all other tablets at launch even without those features. Your box analogy is wrong. If the XOOM could ONLY play Flash and use SD cards then sure, but it does a whole lot more than that.

The box could still be used to sit on, maybe send a package, or a nice little house for a kitty. But the big thing about the Android tablets was how it supported flash.

Wait it doesn't have flash, okay well that wasn't a big deal anyway. It has 2 cameras though!

Yes, two cameras, dual-core processor, HD screen, 1gb RAM, Honeycomb, etc. If you ask me, that makes a very capable device that's going to be on sale this thursday.

I ain't Bill Gates, Nikola Tesla or Al Gore but isn't Flash something these folks in the dev community can hack in about an hour if the OS and HW support it?

My Archos didn't ship with it and it didn't even have Google Market but we had an APK for both by the time I got my tablet a few days after the first shipment...

The Motorola spokes person says it works with 10.1 flash. So we should be able to download it right from the market and have flash. It may not be the 10.2 specified for honeycomb but we should have flash with a simple market download.

With that being said either way I cannot wait to get my Xoom on Thursday!

Honestly, im still getting the xoom. Lack of flash at launch really wont bother me. Like one person said on here, it will come. I can wait it out till flash is released. Its not a big deal for me at all, ive had an iphone for the past 4 years now and have done fine without it. Look at the people who hated the fact that iphone or ipad didnt have flash but still opted to get them anyways.

This doesn't bother me a whole lot. Eh, yeah, it's kind of disappointing, and maybe it's an end result of Motorola rushing this to launch, but it's coming. I'm 100% confident in that.

I'll add that not everyone who's saying Flash is no big deal ever gave Apple a hard time, and so it's not necessarily hypocrisy for any given person. And, not having Flash at launch because of some technical issue isn't the same as Apple making it official policy to never enable Flash support.

When I first saw no Flash I was kinda upset because I'm sick of my iPad and the lack of Flash, but now that I have thought about it some more. Oh well, I'm still getting it (maybe 10.1 will work thru the market) and will be able to enjoy it while I sell my iPad and wait for Flash 10.2 and LTE. LTE will be the BOMB!

It looks like I stand corrected and 10.1 will not work through the market. I found this from another website (Since AC does post items they found from there I think it is OK to say this is from Droid Life) and there still maybe another fix to hold us over until 10.2 is ready.

By now you’ve already heard news that the Motorola XOOM won’t launch with Flash 10.1 enabled and will instead see it via market download some time this spring? Well, we may have just been handed an .apk that can be tried on Thursday should you be going forward with your purchase to give you a Flash experience right away. A Flash 10.1 version for Tegra 2 devices popped up over at XDA and while it says that it’s made for Froyo, we’ll be testing it on our XOOM to see if it works. While I can’t recommend that you try this because we have no idea what the effects could be, we’re just giving it to you as an option.

Download: Flash-10.1.120.1.apk

And remember, you should NOT download Flash from the market once you get your XOOM because it runs on a Tegra 2 processor and is not compatible with 10.1.106.16. Adobe has added notations to the market version to remind you of this…

It SHOULD NOT be installed on devices/tablets with the NVIDIA Tegra 2 super chip including the LG Optimus 2X, Dell Streak 7 and Motorola ATRIX. The pre-installed version of Flash Player is optimized for Tegra 2. Future updates will include these optimizations. If you are unsure as to whether your device includes the NVIDIA Tegra 2, please consult your device owner’s manual.
