What No Verizon Galaxy S II Means for the Droid Bionic

So, you may have heard the news. Verizon has taken a pass on the Samsung Galaxy S II. This is obviously a huge blow to those of you who had been banking picking up a Galaxy S II on Verizon next month and more specifically, those who were hoping there would be a 4G LTE Galaxy S II on Big Red.

Whats the big deal? Easy question, easy answer: Everyone waiting to decide between bionic and sgs2 will now get bionic.

What does it mean overall for bionic's sales? Probably will be good for them. I mean, can't hurt.

#1: Thank you for being concerned about my "well being". (It's nice to feel loved).

#2: You make some valid points (and a well written post, I might add), but your reasoning only leads to more speculation about the Nexus Prime.

What doesn't make sense is why Verizon would pass on the S2?? They must know this is one of the most anticipated phones of the year, no? Even if the Prime is somewhere on the horizon, Verizon would certainly "double-up" on sales from geeks (like me!) who bought either the Bionic or S2 only to find themselves drooling over the Prime later this year.

I could be really mean and serve up a dish of crow to CK for all of his ranting and raving about GS2 and knocking Bionic at every turn but problem is he isn't here to enjoy it. I just know he would do the same to me in a heart beat if this happened to Bionic which is why I don't feel so bad posting this much. :(

Just sucks real bad for all the GS2 hopefuls for VZW. Like Christmas or a birthday got cancelled for those folks.

Most anticipated? Really? I've never been a fan of any version 2 of a phone. Always seems like a slightly altered version of the first. Of coarse, getting a "2" does entitle you to thereafter start at least half of your post with "This is what the ___ should have been from day 1." I'd rather have some actual new technology via a whole new device. I expect the HD will be primo, but at some point you have to stop waiting and start buying, so with a smile on my face and love in my heart, I welcome the Bionic.

I just saw this and came right here. I knew there would be a post. I saw the post and instantly it was like a slap to the face...holy crap there's nothing holding me back from getting a Bionic now. No way I'm waiting 2-3 more months for a new phone. Sorry to those of you waiting on the GSII, it's a real shame, but at least there is something worth it, if not the Bionic, there are always new phones on the horizon.
I feel bad for those of you who hate the Pentile screens too, since there aren't really any phones that will oppose this phone, but I really do hope you don't think about getting an iPhone 5. If you buy it, I can almost guarantee you would've been happy with any other Android smartphone, especially this one.
Now I am SO ready to be getting this phone

Yup, couldn't agree more. I waited 3 months for the Bionic and SG2 to show their faces so I can compare them side by side and judge for myself. Since there's no chance of that happening now, I don't have any patience left to wait another 3 or 4 mths for the Prime. Besides, I have a friend who works for Googlerola and he said the Bionic will not disappoint.

I must admit I've been fairly tolerant of the constant mentions of the SGII.

So to them all I have to say is: if you listen carefully you can hear the derisive laughter. It sounds a little like the bones of crow snapping under your bite as you happily chew down on it.

Bottom line is yes, for a while, this phone will be the alpha wolf on Verizon. And yes, it will be superceeded, this is the way it goes.

The reason big red is not getting sgsII is because they are getting the Prime.

I'm dying to know if the prime is coming. Do u guys think the unpacked event will release info on it? Otherwise I'm pulling the trigger on the bionic.

I'm gonna go ahead and say it right now...I don't think the Prime for Verizon is coming until January. I also don't think it will be a Nexus device per say, but similar to what happened with the Nexus One. Verizon was originally going to get the Nexus One but instead passed on it and got the Incredible instead. I think we'll see a similar thing happen with the Nexus Prime. It may not be a "Nexus" device but the specs and everything else will be similar. It will be a Samsung device with similar specs as the Nexus Prime, but don't think it will be without bloatware, etc. It will probably be called something other than a Nexus and probably the first device to launch with ICS on Verizon. Ok that's all for my prediction.

i bet motorola paid verizon or some sort of deal like that. Theres no logic behind not having a phone like that on ur network. The fastest, thinnest smartphone on the fastest network. c'mon, thats a no brainer. Motorola knew that if the gsII came out and if it was 4g (and even if it wasn't for some people) it would have killed the bionic. I mean lets be honest, as much as i like the bionic, between the specs and the load up video, this phone could have came out 6 months ago. and if woulda came out then it woulda been hot stuff. But now its like motorola is releasing a phone thats already 6 months behind.

First of all, even if the GS2 came to Verizon with LTE, it wouldn't be the thinnest smartphone anymore. Have you seen all the other LTE phones? They are all fairly thick compared to the 3G phones. Second, all of the US variants of the GS2 are using a Qualcomm processor and not the Exynos that is in the international version of the GS2 so it's not even the same phone anymore. That dual core Qualcomm processor being used is based on ARM Cortex A8 architecture which is a generation behind. The OMAP4, Tegra 2, and Exynos all are Cortex A9 based, which makes all of these processors much better performers. I think Verizon not releasing the GS2 is a good move, as it wouldn't have been the same phone anyways, and the Prime, or something similar will most likely come soon anyways.

I didn't think of it that way...why are they switching the CPU? That's so useless. Anyways...we won't be getting one so all those Sammy fans have to find something else (probably the Bionic) or go elsewhere.

Who knows why they are switching it. You'd think it'd be cheaper to use the Exynos since they make it themselves.
