AC Question

Hi,

I am a long time user of the Samsung Galaxy range. I currently have the S5 Neo which I've found a bit slow on the processor plus I'm having to squint (age related thing).

I've acquired a pre-owned Samsung Note 4. It's a UK model. I'm in the UK. It's running Android Lollipop . I've got an Asda, which uses EE, PAYG sim with 20gb of mobile data but there's no mobile data icon in the shortcuts. The mobile data is switched on when I go through settings but I can't use the data. I either use Wifi or nothing. It was a T-Mobile phone before it was unlocked.

Is the lack of mobile data icon a samsung or android fault ? Naturally the phone was factory reset when I received so I see no point in doing another one.

Can you advise me please ? Thanks

Okay, but if you've already entered those settings, that probably isn't the answer to your problem. I thought that, since you are using a Mobile Virtual Network Operator - Asda - the settings may not have been made automatically, but may need to be entered manually to give you access to Internet rather than just texts and calls. If those settings are in fact already entered on the phone, whether automatically or manually, the problem lies elsewhere.
Keep us posted.

Hi, so today I have put my 3 sim in the phone and the Internet worked straight away although still no mobile data icon. It is my belief that this phone is a USA T Mobile phone. Reason why it's model number is ending with a T (nothing to do with T Mobile lol!)

A technical person in a phone shop had never heard of this issue. Was surprised that phone was running 5.1.1 Android.

I can download a Widget to switch mobile data on/off.

Cheers

^ I was wondering myself whether the OP's device is T-Mobile US rather than T-Mobile UK, which might suggest the wrong radio bands as mentioned by Rukbat above....except that it's described as a UK model.
Anyways, thx for your feedback. :)

It is me, the OP. Seem to have 2 different ways of logging in and 2 different username so ended up posting a reply to myself. I have am the proud owner of an immigrant phone😊 somehow. T Mobile US say I can update to marshmallow using Kies. Is this wise move?

It has its issues but my god, the processor is so fast compared to my S5. I don't want to have issues with updates getting stuck halfway
Cheers x

You can update to Marshmallow, but the phone still won't have the radios (hardware) to get data in the UK. Cellphones aren't all internationally usable yet, so you can't buy a phone "here" and use it "there" without risking a problem.

Thanks ☺ I'm terrible with passwords. I gotta say when my S5 Neo updated to Marshmallow, I didn't notice much difference. That is definitely a UK phone as I got it brand new.

As for as the Note 4, just disappointed no theme store mainly now. Otherwise fantastic phone and I love the s-pen.

Cheers x
