NO music player will continue past one song on my Note 4

I've had my Note 4 for 2 yrs and never really used it much for music, but I want to now and It's exhibiting a stupid behavior. My music files are stored on SD card and, no matter what file I play or what player I use (I've tried native and VLC), it will only play one track at a time and there is no setting that I can find to change it to all files in folder. I love this phone, but the fact that I have to waste time researching something so simply is utterly infuriating. Also, VLC won't even monitor SD, only internal memory, so I have to play files from file manager because I can't browse to them from inside VLC. These kinds of idiotic issues should not exist in this day and age.

Any ideas?
