No New Awesome Android Phones for Sprint

And your point? Quantity over quality? Those phones are almost identical for the most part. Besides the Razr and the GN, what is so special about that lot?

I'm not ok with incremental updates anymore. There are too many incremental and mediocre phones being released by HTC, MOTO and Samsung every 3 months. Droid Bionic and a month later the RAZR? Why? It's Nonsense...

So you would like to personally dictate to Sprint users which phone choices should be available because you personally don't like some of the phones?!?

That's not being fair at all since I included the single core 1GHz phones on Sprint as well. It doesn't matter what phone came out first, since this thread is about the number of choices and how there is no news of any other high performance Android phones coming out on Sprint.

Then you missed a few 1 ghz phones on Sprint, lol.

And time frame does matter, that's my point. When Sprint had the 3d and the Photon come out Verizon customers were ing that the best they were getting is the X2. Next summer will be the same thing again. Its cyclical. Spring has big releases in the summer.

Let's see.

HTC EVO Design 4G
HTC EVO 3D
Motorola Photon 4G
Samsung Galaxy S II Epic 4G Touch
Samsung Replenish
Samsung Conquer

Not to mention the
IPhone 4
IPhone 4S

Plenty of variety from Sprint in the last 8 months if you ask me.

How about a slider replacement for the original Epic?

They do need to get one out, but to be fair, Verizon just got their version of the Epic we had last year. Now that Motorola is making phones for Sprint, hopefully we'll see a slider from them

Evo Shift 4G and Epic 4G are still on sale. Both have been upgraded to Gingerbread. Again, those are capabale phones available for Sprint right now.

so i'll piggy back off of this thread instead of starting a new one...
my parents are looking at joining my family plan and they are looking for newer phones.

will there be no phones coming out around x-mas?
they want smart phones, but don't want to spend a whole lot of money. so no epic II for them, but I don't want to get them an older EVO either.

There's a new EVO View 4G that just came out. Mid priced. Also a new blackberry style candy bar phone just came out. Check out Sprint.com Your parent's won't care about specs or what version of Android they are on. Get them whatever.

My wife picked up the Evo Design 4G and I'm really impressed for $99. I recommend trying it out at the store. :D

edit: Here is a review.

I believe the OG EVO is currently free at Best Buy. Epic 4G Touch is currently 1 cent on Amazon.

I have the Samsung Galaxy S2 Epic 4G Touch and am very happy with it. Especially when I'm out on a bike ride using the MapMyRide app.

Now, where's that tree I was going to plant.......

Some of the reasons why you will see little if any new high-end smartphones is the WiMax/LTE debacle. It's too complicated, costly and disadvantageous to cram multiple radios for 2 versions of 4G along with the 3G radios and WiFi and Bluetooth. It will be tough to get any major maker of Android phones like Samsung and HTC to make a Franken 4G/LTE phone and stand by it. just look at how much bigger the Verizon Nexus is to the GSM version, imagine making it even bigger with an additional WiMax chip.

Instead you will probably see lesser know manufactures make these heavy, battery draining problematic devices.

I also think that we are at the time frame where we are going to be seeing a change in hardware. Sprint's not going to have many big phones coming out when there'll be a new standard in 3 months.

Question is to people like me, should I upgrade to the GS2 from my Pre or just switch to Verizon? With unlimited data on Sprint looking like it might go away I'm not seeing an advantage to stay with Sprint and I really need to get a new phone now.

Sprint is still holding onto phone unlimited data for the foreseeable future. Plus, you'll be grandfathered in if it changes. I would get the SGSII if I were you, or buy a NS off contract cheap and use that and save your upgrade.

No mater what some say about it.. If you live in an area with good coverage the Nexus S is hard to beat

I'm pretty sure the Nexus Galaxy and SGS2, RAZR and others would be able to "beat it". It's an old phone. It's a nice phone too but for enthusiasts it's behind the tech curve.

The GN, yes, the RAZR...only rooted and overclocked. For SPEC enthusiasts its behind the curve, but for people that just pick it up and base their opinions on how it runs its not. My friends with out of the box dual cores like the Bionic are impressed by how the NS runs. That's one of the advantages of the Nexus, vanilla android that is built specifically for it. It can hold up with next Gen specs. For the price of it right now, its the best deal for the dollar out there
