No Pixel for Me

Re: Are you getting the Pixel? What are your reasons? (for? against?)

If my Bluetooth worked on my 6p id probably keep it for a while, but it doesn't so the phone doesn't meet my needs. I'm going to try to sell it and grab a Pixel XL. I like the look, camera is promising, and everything else I saw today intrigued me. So, if I can get the 6p sold, I'll be all over the Pixel

Re: Are you getting the Pixel? What are your reasons? (for? against?)

I can't see jumping from a 6P to Pixel unless you want carrier features.

Re: Are you getting the Pixel? What are your reasons? (for? against?)

$1000,no chance,no way....my 6P is stil my best ever phone by far,I`ll be keeping it til it dies and even then I`ve got a spare 6P waiting in the wings :D

Re: Are you getting the Pixel? What are your reasons? (for? against?)

I'll stick with my 6P.

*Front facing speakers
*5.7" screen (after using another phone with 5.5" screen, I don't want to go smaller, if anything I would get a 6" screen, almost got the Nexus 6)
*64 GB
*Fast and smooth device
*Works great
*Specs are still good for my needs
*AND when I got it, Best Buy was running a promo - $475 with a free Speck Case.

So yeah I'm sticking with this bad boy! I have no reason(s) to switch. My $0.02. :)

Re: Are you getting the Pixel? What are your reasons? (for? against?)

I paid $650 Including tax at the time for my 6P 128gb. No way In hell I'm going to flog it for what $350???....and then have to come up with another $500 plus tax to buy the Pixel XL 128GB, which IMHO isn't a leaps and bounds smartphone over the 6P. There's not even a scratch on my 6P, runs great and the battery life hasn't taken much of a hit in the 11 months that I've owned it. Project-fi and the $5 a month extra I pay for Nexus protect on my 6P will keep me in good standing until next year's phones come out and then I'll re-evaluate.

Re: Are you getting the Pixel? What are your reasons? (for? against?)

Yes, it's very expensive. That said, most of my friends have way more expensive hobbies! So, I'll sell my mint condition 6p (which I still love) and enjoy having the latest and greatest, LOL.

And, having pre-ordered it already, it'll be worth some of the money to participate in the forum discussions :-)

Re: Are you getting the Pixel? What are your reasons? (for? against?)

It truly is a little expensive, never appreciated the iPhone's price so can't appreciate this price as well

Re: Are you getting the Pixel? What are your reasons? (for? against?)

No freaking way. $900 for 128gb XL? Holly cow, cats, dogs, and rats. NO THANK YOU.

I upgrade every year but not this time. I'm very disappointed as I feel google gave Nexus fans the middle finger after being loyal for years. Nexus devices wont get 7.1 until end of 2016 and only dev preview. What is that? Really Google? Thanks for nothing.

Re: Are you getting the Pixel? What are your reasons? (for? against?)

I didn't even see that was $870 for this. I didn't realize I choose the regular Pixel. Not the XL for $750. Ouch! Thats way too much for a phone. What the hell was Google thinking. A phone is not my priority so I'm not going to drop that much money on it. I'd rather drop that on my truck or a DSLR lens.

Re: Are you getting the Pixel? What are your reasons? (for? against?)

Where are people seeing 1k?

I think they're taking the $850 Pixel XL 128GB, adding tax and then including the extra 1 year $99 in house protection on top of that

Re: Are you getting the Pixel? What are your reasons? (for? against?)

Probably in their shopping carts after taxes, etc.

Last I checked, the black 128GB Pixel XL is the exact same price as the black iPhone 7 Plus 128GB. I love water sports (kayaking); so, the highly water resistant iPhone will probably be my next upgrade.

Google should have undercut the iPhone in price this year to sell phones. Google needs time to prove their new ecosystem is worth the premium prices. After a year or two of consistent quality, I'm sure we'd be more willing to pay -- just not today.

PIxel is a disaster, will cause Android to fork

Android's biggest problem is fragmentation which will now get much worse. Samsung has been toying with their own OS for years and they aren't alone, they've done it because they didn't like being at Google's mercy. By putting proprietary features into the Pixels Google is forcing the hands of the major Android manufacturers. My guess is that the response is going to be to fork Android as Amazon has done. There maybe multiple forks or, best case scenario, a single fork overseen by an opensource organization. When Oracle tried to close up Open Office and My SQL both projects were forked, Libre Office and Maria DB, and the forks quickly became dominant. If Google doesn't change course they will lose control of Android in a very short time.

Re: PIxel is a disaster, will cause Android to fork

I don't think so. So much of what makes compatibility runs in the Google Services layer now. While fragmentation is still a thing, is different than it was in the donut, eclair, and group days and not the detriment it once was.

I also don't believe Samsung will pull an Amazon. Sure, Samsung has their own store, but users would be turned off losing the Play Store and their existing purchases.

Re: PIxel is a disaster, will cause Android to fork

I think Google is doing the right thing ... they need to offer a complete ecosystem just as Apple does.

If Samsung and other manufacturers fork Android, that's fine ... I will just continue to ignore their offerings. No worries.

Re: PIxel is a disaster, will cause Android to fork

"Pixel is a disaster".......

I hope manufacturers do get angry. I'm of the opinion that Google should lock down their source code and not let manufacturers have so much freedom. If Samsung and others believe they can build a better OS, I say let them. If Google would have been a little more strong armed to begin with, then fragmentation wouldn't be as big of a problem as it is.

They seem to disagree and are also noticing that on all the major phones, no one cares much for the difference between $22 per month, $28 per month and $37 per month.

This, so much.

A lot of consumers now days don't give a crap about what the actual cost of something is. "Oh that car is $35,000? Who cares, I have $500 a month I can spend, if you can get the payment there done deal."

I do agree that the price point is pretty high. But it is supposed to be Google's flagship.

I still cannot believe that the verizon model has a locked down bootloader!! Is the play store model any different? Than again Verizon never ceases to amaze me
