No Pixel for Me

What are they smoking at Google? .....

i've been asking that question FOR years but mostly whenever i question or complain about Google i get a slew of, "don't like Google, go with Microsoft or Apple"...

Not an option, as i REALLY LOVE Android but HATE Google and have FOR YEARS....(only SOME of you could understand how that is even possible, but trust me, it totally is...) its always been and continues to be about "THEM" and not about "me" (the consumer) ...

That's not a brand i can be on board with, recommend, or even understand....and as for buying their wayyyyyyyy wayyyyy overpriced products, would go back to using two tin cans & a string BEFORE i'd plunk down a thousand bucks for their latest offering....

It's about data. And it's been that way from day 1.

Got my 6P for close to a year now. Still one of the best phones I ever had, and the best Android experience. I think I only liked my WebOS phones better.

Now if anyone could explain to me, why I should buy an expensive phone that is only marginally better than my actual phone (and only on the paper so)?
I don't think Nexus Users are the customers who are addressed with this phone...

Re: Upgrading to 6P over Pixel XL?

I didn't wait as the leaks didn't impress me so bought the 5x. I wanted 6P but just too big to handle.

How much did you get the 5X for, and do you remember the price of the 6P?

I could still get it off Amazon, but I'm curious as to the differential between the Amazon price and Google's, which I expect would be lower.

They seem to disagree and are also noticing that on all the major phones, no one cares much for the difference between $22 per month, $28 per month and $37 per month.

well, at least the people who can't do math.

Many of us can do math.

I'd venture that the average consumer can't, but they're looking at the ability to muster capital. Many people can come up with $20 or $30 per month but can't get over $500 together at once without sacrificing a separate short term expenditure. But either way, whether or not they KNOW the difference is immaterial, it's a matter of whether or not they CARE about the difference. Samsung, Apple, et al. have shown us that they do not.

I just installed Allo on my phone.

There. Saved $1000 and got the poor man's version of the Google Assistant.

Yeah. I watched the event and am really impressed with the multi-platform integration but not so impressed that I'm will to part with almost a thousand dollars. That's absurd, I've had my 6P for 2 months and got it for half that price and it's fine for everything I need. I may jump aboard a year from now if it gets cheaper and the reviews are all positive.

I have been an Android user since the original nexus. At the current state I will not buy another galaxy, they have terrible after purchase service and we will not speak about how they handle updates.

My problem with the Pixel is that when you are touching Iphone territory in pricing you have to be able to offer the same type of customer experience. If I buy an Iphone I am also buying an excellent customer service and after sales service with a guaranteed updates for the next 3 years. I buy a new device yearly so it's less important for me.

The point being if I break my screen I go to the apple store I pay a deductible and I get a new device on the spot, something is wrong with my device they swap it with another one on the spot. To have something similar to this in Canada outside of apple you have to get the Best buy warranty program, which is 180$ per year. So the Pixel will infact cost more than the Iphone, apple has a track record of supporting there past devices. Google just dropped the ball on the previous Nexus owners so I cannot trust them in the future. I think the device will be a flop and it might actually hurt android as a whole, Hardware partners are not going to be happy about this move by google.

I see as a charge on my credit card (actually just a verification)... that hit right after I configured and purchased the following:

Pixel XL Black
128GB
Nexus Protection
Tax

To be specific: $1016.16

They won't actually charge the card until it ships.... which I don't think I will let happen anymore.

I bought the 128 gb 6P for $475 on Amazon Prime Day (July 12th), upgrading from my 64 gb Moto X Pure, which I bought for $399 on a 1-day sale in March, which replaced my 64gb Nexus 6, which I bought last November on Black Friday for $249. I have since sold my Nexus 6, I am currently using my 6P and completely loving it, and I still have my Moto X Pure as a backup.

Though I find the Pixel XL 128gb (which is what I would get) to be a great phone (spec-wise), I find the price to be ridiculous and not enough of an upgrade to justify purchasing it.

Strictly MY opinion, nothing more. I am by no means knocking or criticizing anyone's choices, for I believe that anyone who buys the Pixel will thoroughly enjoy it. I just don't believe that it would be $500 more enjoyable than my Nexus 6P.

My advice would be to wait until the morning of Black Friday and purchase the 6P 64 or 128gb variants on Amazon for a steal.

Re: Are you getting the Pixel? What are your reasons? (for? against?)

But LG aren't that expensive? Here in Sweden the G5 started out at 6500 SEK ( $750) but has now dropped to 4000 SEK ($465). Those are the current currencies by the way. Considering that the new iPhone 7 32Gb retail at 7500 SEK ($870), I think the LG G5 is fairly cheap. It would only costs me $30 more to buy it than the Oneplus 3. I don't like Oneplus's terrible customer service, so unless the Pixel drops like crazy, I'll buy the G5. The only thing I dislike about it is the lack of an app drawer and the fact that it's uses an android skin. Would be nice to try out that Stock android feel.

You can simply re-enable the app drawer in the settings. Don't worry about not having an app drawer when you initially setup the phone. Go into an ATT or another carrier's retail store and look in the settings. It's an option now.

Yeah dude totally agree, I actually would have bought a pixel xl 32gb if it was at base price($649), but the actual price is just...ugh.

no, car dealers perfected that years before you were born--and made people immune to the actual math. The public is like Violet in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory--the public wants it NOW!

Samsung and Apple are just hopping on that bandwagon, hoping to make money from the millenial "rent everything, own nothing" mentality.

Because many people can come up with $20 or $30 per month but can't get over $500 together at once without sacrificing a separate short term expenditure and, to your point aren't willing to wait and build up their savings?

...and without realizing it, pay massive amounts of money for stupid stuff--"only ten bucks a month" at a time.

As long as I don't have to take care of them when they're old and have all of three thousand dollars in life savings.

I agree that the mechanism is overused but that's definitely the strategy for this pricing model. I think not many people are buying outright now.
