Android Central Question

I have a brand new galaxy s21+, and I noticed that I do not get notifications on the locked screen. I have manually turned on pop up notifications per app, but the setting keeps turning itself off. For example, for Facebook Messenger, I do: notifications>Messenger>notification categories>chats>show as pop up, and the setting will stay for a few hours, but it always ends up switching off somehow. All of the apps I have done this with, such as Instagram, Twitter, and GroupMe all worked for a few hours and then stopped. The only app that has continued to show on the lock screen is Google Messages, which is my default messaging app.

Welcome to Android Central! Is your phone set to show all lockscreen notifications? Look in the system settings for that option.

And are you talking about the basic notifications in the middle of the lockscreen, or are you specifically talking about popup notifications (i.e., the larger banner notifications that appear at the top of the screen when actively using the phone)?

I get most notifications while I am using my phone (but not all of the notifications, some won't show up ever) but the specific issue I am having is that I want my notifications to pop up as a banner at the top of my screen while it is locked. The setting is called show as pop up, and it creates a banner notification and gives edge lighting when I get a notification while the screen is locked.

Hmm, I don't think I've ever seen that in action. It would seem to be that banner notifications on the lockscreen would often not be seen, since banners typically disappear after about 5 seconds or so. I'll have to defer this to anyone else who might have experience with it.
@mustang7757, any additional thoughts?

Yeah, they are quick when they work, but my partner and I have been testing stuff out trying to get it to work and its very hard to miss the edge lighting, so I know for sure that the setting is turning itself off.

Yes , under lockscreen >tap.AOD >toggle show for new notification see if that helps Screenshot_20211215-173043_AlwaysOnDisplay.jpg

That does make the AOD display turn on but not the banner notification. How can you attach a picture to a reply? I got a screenshot of an email coming through that shows the banner and edge lighting but I cannot figure out how to put a picture in here.

Also go to settings>notification>brief pop up select>brief pop settings tap>edge notification change by tapping , follow my screenshotScreenshot_20211215-184912_Settings.jpg

The first image is what the pop-up looks like (obviously with the screen off). I followed your instructions to the brief pop up settings and this is all I have in there. The third picture is what I was explaining in my original post; the show as pop-up switch keeps turning itself off and I keep having to go and turn it on.

Yeah. There is the option to turn on pop ups on lock screen, like I showed for messenger on the first post, but it turns off automatically a few hours after I turn it back on.

Hmm strange it will revert back to off after some time , do you want try something? Go to settings>apps>3 dots upper right corner tap>reset app preference

I did the reset and when I checked the setting the show as pop up was turned on already, so hopefully it stays! I will update in the morning.
