Hello,

I updated my rooted phone to 4.0.4 and cannot get in to recovery mode. I have tried re-rooting and still no access. SU has no apps listed. I am thinking that if I go back to 4.0.2 then I will have access again. Any help is appreciated. I am new at this:)

I've been using the ICS 4.0.4 since one month now and it is still rooted. I had installed SuperSU in between and had later uninstalled it, which unrooted the phone. Carried out the usual process of booting into recovery and flashing the su.zip and I was rooted again. No issues.

If you are not able to boot into recovery using the adb command, try switching off your phone and then pressing and holding the volume rocker and the power button at the same time. The phone should boot and you should be able to select 'recovery mode' from there.

Thanks for the help. I did that already. When I select recovery mode the android with the red exclamation point pops up:(

Sounds like you lost recovery and need to flash your custom recovery again then apply SU access.

  • Download ClockworkMod Recovery for the G-Nex.
    [Download]
  • Place that file in your SDK/Tools folder (same place as your adb.exe).
  • Download the superuser file aka the root file. [Download]
  • Place that file in your SDK/Tools folder.
  • Open a command prompt from within your Tools folder and type the following: adb push su.zip /sdcard/
  • Then reboot into the bootloader: adb reboot bootloader
  • When the boot menu loads, flash the new recovery image:

    fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-5.5.0.4-toro.img
  • When that finishes, use the volume keys to highlight “Recovery mode,” press power to select it.
  • From recovery, scroll to “Install zip from sdcard.”
  • Then “choose zip from sdcard.”, choose the “su.zip” file and install it.
  • When that finishes, back out of recovery and reboot the system.

Phone is ROOTED now. Cheers.

Thanks for the help:) I finally got it done through the wug toolkit. My drivers weren't configured properly the first time:)

Also, nicely put in step 3 from [GNex TOOLKIT V5.5] Drivers, Backup, Unlock, Root, CWM, Flash, Mods + MUCH MORE [LTE] - xda-developers

3. FLASHING A ROM, RADIO OR KERNEL VIA CWM RECOVERY

a. Download your chosen Rom, Radio or Kernel from the Development Forum, then make sure your phone is booted up as normal and connect your usb cable so it goes into MTP Mode. Copy the .zip file (DO NOT UNZIP IT FIRST) to the 'Internal Storage' part on your phone. Do not copy it to a Sub Directory as it will be harder to find when flashing it.

b. Enter CWM Recovery by first entering the Fastboot mode Screen (Disconnect the usb cable (if you have one plugged in), then shut down your phone. Keep holding the 'Volume Up' and 'Volume Down' buttons and press the 'Power' button to boot the phone into FastBoot Mode), then select 'Recovery mode' by pressing the 'Volume Down' button and then press the 'Power' button to enter CMW Recovery.

You can also enter Recovery by downloading Rom Manager (free from the Market) which gives you the option to reboot to Recovery.

c. Scroll down to 'Install zip from sdcard' and select. Then select 'choose zip from sdcard'.

d. Scroll to your Roms' zip file and select. Then scroll down to 'Yes' in the list and select to start flashing the Rom.

e. When flashing is finished select 'Go Back' until you get to the Main Menu and then select 'reboot system now' to reboot your phone into Android.

did you wipe data/dalvik and cache before flashing it? Also, are you sure the Modaco ROM works on CDMA nexus (toro) and not just GSM (maguro)?
