I just ordered this phone, but I didn't realize the T1 still doesn't have a solid root, and correct me if I'm wrong, but the T2 may never have a root. For those with unlimited data, has anyone found a good way to tether/hotspot without paying for the $30 monthly hotspot?

I'm on a very old family plan, and although I have a personal limit of 4GB, some people on my plan have unlimited data, and I don't get hotspot without paying. I rooted my last phone (G2) as a workaround, but now that I can't do the same root solution with the T2, I'm trying to figure out how to tether.

Does FoxFi solve this for T2? I've never used that, but I understand it might not work with every phone

I appreciate your insight.

I'd try foxfi. They have a free one to verify it works then you can purchase the full version. Will you report back as I was looking at the T2 but without foxfi I'll keep my G4

Looks like FoxFi might be a solution, but only with using a USB tether. Has anyone ever done this? Anybody else out there tethering with unlimited data?

Does Verizon still require a monthly payment for tethering? My wife's Galaxy S4 and S5 both allow me to tether and I don't pay anything extra. I assumed Verizon stopped charging for it.

There are monthly payments for people on old plans or trying to use unlimited data. I've been using a workaround with a rooted phone, but since this phone doesn't have a root yet, I'm looking for another workaround

I tether without USB or Bluetooth, just wifi. Verizon had blocked it earlier this week but its been working on my G4 again.

Weird. I just tried this today with hotspot still not doing anything on my phone. I'm just doing the FoxFi with USB tether for now until a free WiFi option can be found.

I'm just using the free version of FoxFi with usb. I haven't heard yet if the WiFi option works, even on the paid version

Darn. I just got "WiFi mode is no longer allowed in the latest phone system update without a mobile hotspot plan. Please use USB mode or bluetooth mode instead using our software" when trying to connect with the wifi mode of FoxFi.

Rayden8 I got that same error but the built in Verizon/moto hot spot works fine

You must have access to the moto/verizon hotspot that I don't have, unless I pay. That functionality isn't available on my account without paying $30/mo. Unless I find a workaroud, that hotspot icon is grayed-out and non-functional

*I have a Moto G (XT1541 unlocked international and not a DT2) so these obviously may not work*

Perhaps try grabbing the default firmware from somewhere, use the CyanogenMod installer and reinstall the stock firmware? That may root it. But I've got no idea.
