So Samsung has released a USB drive that'll plug into the USBC port of the S22 devices. After Google started charging for extra storage I bought a solidstate drive to store my media on. It plugs directly into the USBC drive of the phone, I've only used it on my S21 Ultra but, it shows up in my file manager like any drive or card would. I transfer my data just like moving photos from folder to folder so this idea isn't new to me. It's just odd coming from Samsung.

So what do you think?

I'm not going to get one, because I'd have trouble keeping it from getting lost.

Same. 512 is enough for all the pictures and everything I already have. I use an anker usb c and inserted the SD card into it and sent my pictures that way. Photos only takes up quite a bit of space. 250+ GB. Time to do some deleting of all the nonsense I don't need anymore.

This could be useful while vacationing. I'll be interested to see what Samsung prices them at.
:)

Get an Anker USB C that you can insert your SD card into and it'll do the same thing.

Thanks, I like Anker. I'll check it out.

My biggest use for the extra storage is while I'm camping. A lot of time there is no signal, so no cloud. My SD card was for my music, photos & ebooks I like to listen to music in Hi-Res or Flac format so they are large files.

I've always had good luck with Anker products.
:D

I've had a 32Gb flash drive with micro USB on one side and USB on the other for a good 7 years now, easiest way to move files to a PC.

This is the 1TB drive I use. It comes with a USBC to USBC with USB adaptor.

I wonder if they'll come out with higher capacities? 256 doesn't seem like much when you're considering more long term storage.

I found this 1TB USBC thumb drive that shows it being used with a device... Wonder where Samsung's pricing will fall?

I can't believe it, Samsung taking something away from the phones and then introducing a way to pay for it to carry around. Just like the Spen, SD cards are easier to just have it in the phone as part of the phone.

I used to use a plug in flash drive on my Galaxy S6. It worked fine just like an SD card. I honestly didn't need it that often, though.

Done the same thing. I have an SSD in a usb caddy with a usb c adaptor. I use it to back up my photos and videos and cost less than £40 for 256GB.

Indeed. Because unlike flash drives, micro SD cards were free.

As someone said earlier, just buy a USB-C adapter for the SD card you're no longer using in your phone.
