No sim card error message

My wife's phone gets a "no sim card, emergency phone calls only" error message that eventually goes away. She replaced sim card through att. This now happens for a few minutes at a time, but seems a less frequent. Her next step is to contact Google. Any thoughts? Mine has the same provider and was bought at the same time.

Welcome to Android Central! Remove the SIM drawer and use a can of compressed air to blow out the slot, in case there's some lint or other debris stuck in there.

If that doesn't help, SIM drawer may be faulty (not allowing good connection to the metal contact points for both the first and the second SIM card that you tried) and a return would be in order.
