No sound notification from Messages

I have a s21+ (fully updated) and when I receive a SMS/MMS through Messages (Ver 10.9.360_RC01.phone_dynamic), the audio notifications stopped working. While I do get the pop-up, I don't get the notification sound.

Interestingly, the first time I receive a message from a person (after a reboot), the sound works ok, but for subsequent messages, its silent.

Can someone explain what is going on, or better yet, give me a solution?

Are you using one of the stock tones or a custom tone?

What happens if you change the default notification tone for the Messages app?

I was using a custom tone, but changed that to a standard tone. No change.

Try to clear data and force stop the message app , maybe a glitch
