No voice commands on Pioneer F70DAB

Hi - my first post, so would be grateful for any help!

I have a Pioneer AVIC-F70DAB, running Android Auto from my Galaxy Note 4 (5.1 sw level). AA loads fine, navigates, plays music (of a sort - Spotify integration is not good I know) but the killer for me is that when I press the mic icon, I get a message saying that "there's no internet connection" which is clearly wrong as maps/streaming music is working. Basically I cannot use any voice commands.

Any ideas?

Question: do voice commands work with the phone on its own, like with "OK Google" and Google Now?

Pedrore thanks for responding, yes it works fine when using the phone as normal.
