No voice input button on keyboard

I had the same problem of not having the microphone button show up on text or gmail. I finally found it while in text messaging. Under the keyboard and just left of the space bar are two buttons. On the closest button there was a pencil or maybe a tiny keyboard. I held that button down for a couple of seconds and and bar popped up with four choices - one of which was the microphone. I clicked on it and the button then became a microphone button. It worked for me!

(I have a Note 3)
The area that says "VOICE INPUT KEY" is selected, but, not highlighted (Grey'd out).
And it reads:
"No voice input methods enabled. Check Language & Input Settings"

And, yes, I have gone to the Language & Input Settings area a zillon times trying to figure this out. It seems there are WAY too many people having this issue (with no resolve) to be something I'm doing wrong, lol

Hey! I just had that same problem and the way I figured it out was when you see the options of "Samsung Keyboard, Swype, and Google Voice", click on the "Set Up Input Methods". You should then see the title of "Language and Input" and hold down the setting icon and choose "Use System Language". Let me know if this helps!

I don't think it's a bug anymore. I have now had two different devices (Nexus 5 and Moto G), and both models have this issue, and in both cases it's dependent from the software I'm using (Chrome does't have the voice button, other apps do). I think the application is able to control what special keys appear on the keyboard. So I really think it's a Chrome issue. Maybe Google thinks people don't need voice typing to input an URL.
I don't know if you are still having this ptoblem but just in case you are, I've figured it out easily. On any samsung keyboard, there should be three dots or a small grey line below or above a few keys on your samsung keyboard (most lIkely near the space bar) hold down one of the keys and you should get the option to switch to the mic key. For me there was a settings button on the left sIde of my spacebar that I held down and discovered the mic & figured out that there isn't a bug after all. Hope I helped. Please let me know.

try holding down the keyboard options button until it gives voice option. voice type something and exit to home screen without messing with the keyboard anymore. repeat a couple of times and it should save the voice button.

I don't know if it will work for you guys but I have an LG phone. And in the language and input settings there is a place where you can edit the LG keyboard. In there you can customize your keyboard height and layout.17084.jpg Next you click customize bottom row and you should be taken to a screen where you can change your settings button to the voice-to-text icon. Hope this helps..

I figured it out on mine.....if you go to the keyboard....to the left of the space bar on mine is a settings button....If you hold it for a few seconds its opens up with options of a mic...click on the mic..and bam its permanently on there......or maybe differ on your phone ? On left holding the period or the comma button for a few seconds and also gives different options..try that hope it works for you!

IN REPLY TO WVgirl91 : YOU WERE RIGHT about some apps being disabled.... and THAT FIXED IT quick and easy-------

EXACTLY my problem..... and it wasn't the phone or the apps, it was me. I had disabled some apps and forgot. After finding a list of my apps, I found that sliding the screen revealed 'disabled apps' (I didn't even know that list was in there). A quick fix when NONE of the others worked. THANK YOU - THANK YOU. You're a doll! :-*

With Huawei Ascend Mate, Android 4.1.2,

The problem is that Huawei has a custom keyboard, called Huawei Input Method. This has to be disabled in Language & Input, by dismissing Huawei Input Method, AND making sure it's gone from the Default Keyboard.

It's possible to half disable the Huawei Input, so it comes back again, when you hit a strange button next to the space bar.

Then the microphone appears above "p" key.

SOLVED for Android 5.1 Lollipop, Nexus 5
I didn't have any disabled app, voice input was enabled, and when long-pressing the key on the left of the spacebar only a settings menu would appear (and it didn't have the right option).
Solution: go to the phone general Settings, Apps, Running, Google Keyboard, and there is another settings menu which AFAIK you cannot access from anywhere else! Just enable Google voice typing, and voilà!

yeah I don't I don't know about the Nexus 5 or just the $20 straight talk phone LG but I broke my old one got the same phone and I was having the same issue with the button but then I had a light bulb go off and seen that there was a little voice the little microphone thing was on the Settings button so it worked out pretty well once I figure that out but I do have a question does any of the other keyboard apps work better than the LG keyboard app because my phone has such a small processors memory thatthe LG keyboard app keeps crashing

Just had this issue with my note 3.

If all of your settings are right go to the play store and download Google (just Google, blue icon). As soon as I installed it I was good to go.

I had the same problem. Use google voice to set google keyboard on. So activate google voice and say "google keyboard" and it should run you through the configuration change and actually apply it.

So I'm in America. I have an LG34C and I have this problem. So it isn't your phone type and it's not your country. However I have yet to find a solution.

This worked for me on an LG G4 with Android 5.1 running.
Go to Settings\General\language & input\LG Keyboard click on picture of Gear\click Keyboard height and layout\click QWERTY keyboard layout\A picture of the keyboard spacebar will display with a highlighted symbol to the left of the spacebar (it could be a pencil, a gear or a clipboard). Press that highlighted symbol ie. For example, if its a picture of a gear, press and release the gear and a picture of four symbols will appear Microphone, Pencil, Gear and Clipboard. Just choose the Microphone. It should now up on your keyboard next to the spacebar.

Awesome source of info here.

I tried going through all settings language input etc etc. And nothing. Sooooo I did this and Bam! My best friend is back -Insert Happy Dance Here-
Open Settings>>More>> Application Manager and swipe screen to disabled...
enable any Google related apps that may be disabled. 👍👍
