From my reading all the info I have found seems to be a year or 2 old or for the sprint. Not wanting to brick my new phone so can anybody point to some info that is current and relevant to my phone. any help or info, incite you can give this noob would be greatly appreciated.

phone is cdma

provider = celluar south

my phone = https://www.cellularsouth.com/cscomm...8Black).html

firmware=2.1-update1
software #=2.45.557.1
kernal=2.6.29-28003367

hardware version= 0002

Thanks for any help

[APP] z4root - xda-developers - This works too. Just run the app and press the button. download a recovery through ROM Manager and you're good to go. You can flash Amon_RA if you want, just requires a little more work to install the recovery on your phone once it's rooted.

Try using z4root. You can download it from 4shared.com it gives you superuser access but that's it. You need to download Titanium Backup from the market. That will let you backup your apps and also remove bloatware. But beware! When backing up stock apps it will only backup the data and not the app itself. Once you uninstall a stock app it's gone! So if you don't know what you're deleting, DON'T DELETE IT!

easiest way to root your phone is using this --- CLICK ME

super easy and will work. guaranteed.
that did the trick. the first time i tried to go into recovery i got the red triangle and that made my backside drawup but it worked good the second time.
Thanks to everybody for the fast and helpful posts. any ideas on some must have apps now that im rooted?
im off do some more reading on rooted apps now:D

Cachemate is a good one to have. Clears all caches to free up memory instead of doing it one by one. Shoot me to take screen shots of your phone, root file manager to have system level access and ability to edits.

Now that you have root access flash new ROMs and kernels to improve the phones performance. Remember to flash sprint only ROMs :)
