Noob to N7

Picked up a new 32GB at my local Office Depot on Sunday. Last night I unlocked and rooted it, choosing "No" during the last step so that I could still get OTA updates. I then installed the AOSP browser and Flash. Works like a charm. What other cool things should I do now that I am root? Not necessarily interested in custom ROMs unless some big advantage came out of it. If I accept an OTA will I have to go through the unlock/root process again? Looking forward to getting help and giving any I can as well. Cheers!

you dont seem like a noob. you know how to root and did not flash recovery for future OTA.

titanium back to backup you app data like games levels etc. this can be used to restore those levels back if you have to reset or you lost the levels dud to some reason.

I like this app called airdroid. its supercool app https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...s/details?id=com.sand.airdroid&token=Jc6ATL9T

watch some videos about how it works.

tunein and iheart for radio

Soundhound or shazam for music ID

Thanks for all your input. I am not a Noob to computers, I am a sysadmin. But I am fairly new to Linux and Android unlocking/rooting. I had a few iPhones over the last 5 years (jailbroken) until I recently ditched Apple for a Galaxy S III. I was waiting for the iPad Mini announcement and once I saw it's underwhelming specs per dollar, I pulled the trigger on the N7 32.

Still hoping to find the answer to whether or not I will need to re-unlock/root if I accept OTA updates.

Install ota rootkeeper to backup your su prior to applying ota and restore afterwards...

to get OTA you should have the stock recovery and should not have changes any system files.
unlocking and rooting wont affect the ability to get OTA.

some OTA's will wipe the root but it depends. it will definitely not lock the boot loader.

like mentioned above root keeper is a wonderful app to protect root. if OTA wipes the root then use root keeper to restore it.
