I was researching android tablets and saw that the NC was recommended as it is hackable and cost less then most others. While researching the NC it looks like it does most of what I want it for stock. email, web serf, games, reading, music and videos.

So what will hacking and or overstocking get me? I am programing challenged and a noobie.

Thanks!

Android market access. If you want access to ask the games, apps, new video players, kindle app, Amazon shopping/mp3/ cloud player, etc in the market you have to at least root. B&N market for apps its still pretty limited and it looks like several free apps are paid apps there.

jeregano,
Thanks that was what I was looking for. Since I don't own a nook yet, I was unaware of the limitations.

Thanks again!

You talk about hacking and overclocking and being programming challenged. I'm happy to tell you that the only thing you really need is rooting, which is very easy with autonooter or a card with CyanogenMod7 which is also easy to create. The recent firmware update released by BN has not yet been autonootered but that should only be a matter of weeks as manual root was achieved last week. CM7 is currently working to overcome a problem with the device not wanting to enter deep sleep but again, it should be resolved soon. I've done both and am completely happy with the results. Also, you can return your nook to stock os in seconds from either of those so no need to fret about warranty issues.

I was kind of intimidated at first by all the technical talk around here but most of the mods described here and on xda developer are not terribly complicated. If you're not sure what you're doing stay away from things that require clockworkmod because that can wipe your internal memory which can take hours of work to fix. Other than that the nook is very forgiving. The developers all say it is impossible to brick one so don't be afraid to try things out.

Oh, I wouldn't say "impossible" or even "highly unlikely".

Knowing me, it will be the next disaster I unleash upon myself!

No it is nearly impossible because the nook is wired to boot from SD first so you can fix any problem relatively easily
