Not a DROID it is an ANDROID

I went to Crackberry today and saw that on there they have a clip of Regis and Kelly show. It was about the gadgets they showed at the CES. They had the Playbook the Atrix and other stuff. Well when they go to the Atrix Regis askked if it was a Droid and the guy said YES IT IS A DROID. I get annoyed when people call them Droids. I know that regular people don't know the difference between Android and Droid but I think Android needs to get past that step of Droid and Android. Maybe they can make a commercial telling people the difference lol. Well just wanted to share this with you.

Well to be fair, Verizon's fantastic and sometimes over-the-top advertising of Android and the "Droid" line certainly created all of this confusion to start with.

Droid is actually a trademark of Lucasfilms. The word never really came about until Star Wars. Verizon actually paid Lucasfilms for the right to use the name Droid.

I'm sure most people on here already knew that.

Yeah I manage a retailer (3 Carriers) and we get this all day:

"is this the Droid?"

I get so annoyed. At first I explained the difference, now I just say "yeah".

Lets be honest, it would be hard to get confused with an Apple product. Just add "i" in front of almost anything, and you have an apple product. I think most people say "Droid" because they are too lazy to say "Android." That extra syllable is a lot of work to say, you know! Its funny though, because the guy I work with does the same thing. "I have a droid!" "Oh cool, what do you have?" "The LG Ally." "*facepalm*"

That, or people will refer to everything running Android, even tablets, as a Droid.

Annoys me too! I'll be holding my Nexus and people will say "oh is that one of those droids?" Then I continue to say "No, it is a Nexus One. But its runs android." The person then goes "Right, so it is a droid." Slightly frustrated now, I say "No, it is a NEXUS ONE but it runs ANDROID." The person, confused, walks away saying well have fun with your droid! I have to hold back my anger....

Yeah I think they have. Anything with a lowercase "i" in front of it is owned by apple lol. try a uppercase "I"

In China, the term Android or Droid has no meaning. Chinese simply like to refer to Androids as G-Phones, or Google Phones.
