Not again... Note 9 Fire Alleged in Lawsuit

It's most likely an app at fault in your case, something that uses GPS, or other type activity in the background. Facebook was a big culprit of things like this back in my BlackBerry days. NOT that I'm saying facebook is at issue here. But my suspicion is that it's an app in the background at fault for you. :) Hopefully you can get it resolved soon. :)
It could be, what I started doing was deleting some apps that I think could be the culprit and slowly downloading back one by one. I don't have Facebook app, so I wouldn't know. But I'll definitely keep an eye on it. I would hate to give up my note 9, just like I did my with my note 7.

i came here out of nostalgia since I was a Note7 user and HEAVILY involved on these forums a couple of years ago. I LOVED that phone. Was thikning about getting a Note FE just because, but it doesn't support Samsung Pay in the US. First phone I was truly a little upset by having to turn it in... twice lol. Currently use a 128gb Black/White Pixel 2 XL. Thinking of selling it for the upcoming OP6T.

Anyway - I'm waiting to hear more reports about more N9s. Oh boy...

Exactly. There are isolated incidents with every phone. But because of the Note 7, the press already sees one phone as a trend. Go and Google "Note 9 Fire"-- you'd think there's a worldwide epidemic of exploding Note 9s. One article's title begins with "Be Afraid".

I mean, if there was a defect, wouldn't more than one have caught fire already? Especially with their whole safety check stuff?

I couldn't agree more.

I'm not a huge fan of Samsung and have yet to use a phone from them, but I think jumping on the media bandwagon about "Note 9's catching fire" is not wise. If it were a true epidemic, we'd have seen many more cases by now. With so many people preordering the devices and with it being so easy to post reviews and posts in forums/websites, I feel like we'd have more user evidence by now. But a couple of cases here or there are not evidence enough of a product-wide issue.

Unfortunately Samsung has history and many media and forums are going to jump on this to attract viewership.

Well here is my problem, some time has passed and well maybe I missed it but no official response from Samsung. Things may get a little interesting down the road. Everyone wants proof and me I want to here from the company telling me its FAKE, NOT widespread, or yes we have a problem! Media can do what they want, me I just want to here from Samsung!

Samsung has responded, basically just looking into it and still saying they are safe. We will see, don't remember how long it took before the note 7 started going up in flames. We are at 1 month this week, I think.

I'd like to see a source more credible than the New York Post and since they are saying, "according to court papers", I would like to see those as well.

On the face of it, while we wait for more information, I don't have any issue believing that a phone caught fire. I do have an issue believing that it is another case of spontaneous battery explosion syndrome, or whatever the hell it was with the Note 7. To me, the "my phone was getting hot, so I put it in a purse (confined space with other objects) seems like there could be other factors.

My vote is that we wait for more info prior to going nuts.

Yup... how do we know that she didn't over discharge the battery?

Not worrying about it at all. Especially after seeing techRax smash the heck out of a Note 9 with a hammer and it didn't even smoke or get hot 🤣

It makes me wonder when the lawsuit is filed almost before the incident occurs - looks like a "quick payday" event to me, especially the part about someone quickly put it into a bucket of water (in an office complex - hmmmm).

Unless Samsung incorrectly engineered the phone's battery management system or there was a defect in it, the phone will shut itself off before this occurs.

It's actually pretty difficult to cause a fire as a user. There are many protection systems in place. If it failed, it's possible there was a problem. So she may actually have a valid lawsuit. But even if she wins it doesn't mean they're is a widespread issue. But I imagine it would still be a bit of a media nightmare given the Note 7 recall.

Oh come on now! 105 degrees playing pokemon go out in the direct sun Saturday! My N9 never slowed down or got hot. Damaged device is more likely her issue.

Do you have a case? I am sure it warmed up in those conditions -- any phone would TBH.
