I get the plastic argument though. I pay a premium price for a premium phone. I don't want it to feel like the Arrowhead water bottle in my fridge. I think last year was the first time they really started to get the plastic right. Obviously the best example is the One X, but the GS3 is a good example as well. But truth be told, that was the first time I think Samsung got it right. I'm on Sprint, so the phones are different, but the first two Galaxy phones were not made out of good plastic. They just weren't. I do like the look and the feel of the GS3. I imagine the 4 will be much of the same. My wife loves her GS3 and if she's happy, I'm happy. But she hated the Epic and the GS2. Not to say HTC hasn't had some plastic fiascos, because they have. Apparently the T-bolt kickstand was a flaming piece of junk. And even on my beloved OG EVO, the back always felt like it was going to break in pieces, though it never did. But with HTC I always feel better knowing that the frame is metal and it can take a beating. And in the industry I work in, it certainly gets it. It's obviously a personal preference. So if people take a dump on your personal preference you'd be irritated. I would be. But when you see people who have decided that their preference should be the model for all, you know you're dealing with dummies.

And we're never going to end the fanboy stuff. What else are we going to do from August through March every year while we wait for the new cycle of devices?

I lose so much interest in what people have to say though when they instantly resort to the following two complaints about Samsung: 1) It's cheap plastic and 2) TouchWiz sucks.

Because of past experience on these threads, let me make sure I am understood in why those two things irritate me. Plastic has a bad reputation because it's less durable than metal obviously. If I buy an expensive car, it irritates me that it's fiberglass and plastic. I want something made well. HOWEVER, on a smartphone device in a world where we all upgrade every 6-24 months, as long as you have any ounce of desire to take care of your things you will probably never have a negative experience with a decent plastic phone. Is anyone here familiar with the jokes about how old school Nokia devices are indestructible? What do you suppose they are made out of? Titanium? Cast Iron? Tempered Steel? No, it's plastic. I agree that some plastics are equivalent to ghetto trash. But the S3 and Note 2 are very high quality. Sure, my battery cover has creaked once or twice while installing or removing a case. But if you HATE plastic, you better not use a case or you are a hypocrite. The chances are very high that your case contains plastic, and therefore your phone now has a plastic feel. Sorry, but it's true. All devices have weaknesses in their manufacturing process. If you think a phone is indestructible because it gives you a false sense of security with it's aluminum back, you might learn the hard way eventually that you are incorrect. Accidents happen no matter what you carry in your pocket. Any phone can fall and be damaged. To say Samsung sucks because it has cheap plastic, is being completely illogical and pathetic.

I'm not really going to get into the touchwiz piece because i've gone on and on about plastic. But suffice it to say, I only hear a handful of decent reasons why people do not like it compared to the hundreds of times people complain. People say it's too heavy, or ugly, or cartoonish, or whatever. But no one can ever get specific. Which is frustrating. I feel like if you have such an extreme hatred for something, it shouldn't be too hard to say why. Phil, Jerry, Anndrew, and others on this site have said in reviews that they don't like it, so everyone in the forums wants to feel cool by repeating the same thing. If I HATE something, I will jump at the opportunity to tell people why. I will not get offended that they ask and say: "I don't have to explain that to you!". That is a copout.

So anyway, long story short I think people like to be negative and complain. It's easy to complain when you buy a phone that is awesome, but never gets talked about in the media because another phone is more popular. As Android users we all experience that everyday with Apple. HTC users experience that with Samsung AND Apple. But that doesn't mean that our device is any worse because of that. We can still enjoy life either way without making a**es of ourselves. Choice is good and inspires healthy competition. As a fan of Samsung, I hope HTC can knock it out of the park with this One because it will push everyone else to be even better. I just wish HTC fans didn't want to crucify me because I have an S3 in my pocket and am interested to see what the S4 will bring to the table.

People go by past experience. Touch wiz prior to the nature ux was garbage. It still has room to improve, but because it was so bad people can be instantly turned off of Samsung because of its inclusion. Same with the plastic.

So anyway, long story short...
Too late.

I gotcha though. As for Touchwiz, I do not like it. It feels clunky, like different groups of people were tasked with certain aspects of the UI, and a week before the software is final they just mash it all together. Sometimes it seems as if they're trying to make the homescreen look too much like the iPhone. I really hate the camera interface. A lot. A whole lot. I will say that the changes, starting with the GS3, are subtle but do make it better. Especially the camera. And there are some nice things about it. I like the ability to change the system font in a matter of seconds. I like Sense, and always have, because it feels consistent throughout. The camera app is great, the gallery app was ok but got much better with JB. And just a bunch of little things that I won't remember until they pop up periodically. But the straight truth is that I prefer Sense because it's what I am used to. I've grown up with it since the days of WinMo when it was called TouchFlo. So when I get a new version it always feels like small incremental changes. For somebody coming into it as a Sense virgin? It might take some getting used to.

How did this go from a thread about not getting the ONE, to a Samsung sucks/don't suck thread. SMH. Just get what you like.
It doesn't matter if the phone is plastic or metal, each has its own benefits, the weakest part of any of these flagship phones is the glass display which is what is most likely to break.

Aluminum is more durable than plastic? Not a chance. High end racing parts are made from poly for one reason. It is proven more durable, less conducive to heat......and believe it or not, has memory, unlike aluminum.

Yes, aluminum looks better.....but a phiysics lesson is in order for those that actually think aluminum is more durable, apples to apples, molecular weight to molecular weight.

Just google why polycarbonate is superior to aluminum for durability.

That said, polycarbonate can even be formulated to be superior to steel. Just imbed fiber.

Got to get educated up on materials folks.

Materials chosen in racing have one purpose and one purpose only..WEIGHT savings. Now I see why you wanted to delete your post.

Googled. Clearly you have never taken a Physics course nor have educated yourself on the matter.
Rockwell hardness scale - Aluminum is rated higher than polycarbonate.

Funny how you mention molecular weight as physics when it is really chemistry.

AND you know NOTHING about racing if you say plastic is used because it is stronger. Plastic is used because it is light weight and dispensable when the drive crashes the car. No one here is going to be throwing away their phone like that so aluminum is the better option because it is STRONGER and lasts longer.

This is it and that is all.

Pretty sure the thermoplastic in the motor is for weight only as well. Yuppers.

Okay, took a breathe. My fianc? bro races. Pretty sure flexibility is another attribute of plastic that is needed in racing. Actually, to deduce that there is only one attribute or advantage to plastic doesn't take into account all the other reasons it is preferable in many applications.....but I am a know nothing.

Lol at all the material "information"

Everything depends on grade and process. Many aluminum grades have ridiculously low cutting resistance. More than your average plastic, but not by much. Plastic is so incredibly broad a term. It can mean anything these days. That means any kind of durability or lack thereof.

Long story short, they both can suck for scratches. Cracks depends loading type and how the material was formed.

For screen cracking, too much flex in the frame, and shear stress will crack the glass. Too little flex and the glass will absorb the load and cracks. "Gorilla glass" can take an abnormal amount of shear, but put it in a rigid frame and there is no point in having it.

If it is a point impact(corner drop) your boned no matter what the frame is made of or the type of glass. Glass is glass no matter what animal you put in front of it.

Yeah sure he does. Plastic and polycarbonate is cheap stuff that breaks a lot easier than aluminum. No ifs, ands, or buts about that.
You were spewing false information and tried to even claim you were a racing expert when all you drive is a Ford Explorer 4x4. Hardly a racing car. So much for your credibility.

So I'm 6 pages into this thread and the one thing no one has taken issue with is the OP's comment about Apple being innovative. Okay, maybe the iPod was innovative but not the iPhone. Did you ever have a Palm device? Not phone, but PDA? You probably think Apple "innovated" the touchscreen too, don't you? Everything Apple did with the iPhone/iPod touch, Palm had been doing for *years* and better, including Palm software. They just didn't put a phone on their touchscreen versions like TX or Tungsten and went with a Blackberry- type phone instead, that still had a touchscreen by the way, or give their software a catchy little name like "app". Even this wireless charging, when the Palm Pre came out, it had a wireless charging dock. Just sit the phone on it and go. And that was how many years ago and Apple is just now applying for a patent? Apple innovates nothing. They steal from other people or get exclusive licenses, market it better, then sue others to make it seem like it was theirs first. If Apple is innovative at anything, it's marketing and lawsuits.

Innovative is a keyboard that allows me to slide my fingers across the letters to type while at the same time it tells me what my next word will be. Don't see that on an Apple product, do you? Not until they steal it, then sue Swype and Swiftkey for violating their patent. And all you Apple fanboys will be all giddy over this new thing that Android had for years, kinda like Siri.

There's no need for the tone that some of the recent posts have taken. Keep the discussion civil and on-topic.

Probably, but it's not like they are God looking down upon us and scoffing at our opinions. They might be laughing because they have more experience, knowledge, and inside info. But we're entitled to discuss our opinions based on our thoughts and information that we have. I'm sure there's plenty of people who would laugh at all the posts. If people don't like the way the conversation is headed, they can always read a different thread or actually contribute to get it back on track. If it's crossing the line, the mods can and will close it. Personally, I enjoy listening to what other people think even if it's not my exact thoughts. And i'm not going to laugh at them or make them feel like i think i'm better. At least not intentionally.

It is pretty cool to see the topic shift to racing. If we continue talking about racing I will have to bow out of the convo because I do not know a thing about it. I am impressed that christy knew what kind of vehicle johnly drives because I couldn't remember reading where he mentioned it. Is that creepy, telepathic, or a weak attempt at sounding funny or cool. I'm not entirely sure.

The newton predated palm by a long time. So...your argument doesn't make any sense.
