Not liking the Nexus 5X because of lag

A. The phone doesn't have to lay flat. Not moving.
B. I turn my phone off at night because I want to sleep. It would either be turn it off or turn on the "Do Not Disturb" and it's just as easy to turn it off.
C. I don't subscribe to conspiracy theories without some evidence.

This. If people would reboot daily they wouldn't have issues.
That's just broken. Entirely, thoroughly broken. I don't use MS-Windows because of that kind of brokenness. I will not have a handheld device that has that kind of brokenness.

Any device like that that is so poorly-designed or poorly-coded that it requires a regular reboot deserves to die in the marketplace.

Yeah, it's one thing if you prefer to reboot your own device every day, but if a device requires a daily reboot to function properly, then that's not a well-designed device.

That said, my Nexus 5x works just fine, and I almost never reboot it. Maybe about once every two months or so.

I don't believe the variable is hardware. There is more quality control over hardware than over apps and users.

Fair point about A, but at the same time, what's the point of putting it in your pocket if Doze doesn't work there, like some phones do?

"...what's the point of putting it in your pocket if Doze doesn't work there...."

To take it with me? I don't put my phone on my desk so it will doze. I put it on the desk because it's more comfortable than having it on my belt when I'm sitting at my desk. Some people go through disabling various features to save power. Of course, that means they have to turn them on again if they want to use that feature. There is no free lunch.

LOL! There is NO quality control over users! ;)

That sounded so... Apple like :) So, the phone is perfect, we are just using it wrong. Good to know :)

On a second note, about Doze: the phone needs to sit still, screen off, no touching of buttons or screen, don't activate the gyroscope or any other sensors. Safest bet is laying it flat on a surface, no?

I posted this question over in the "5x over 6?" thread, and a similar question in the "battery life" thread: For those of you who've suffered inordinate lag: Did it improve with the March update?

It did for me (or maybe it was the February one—I forget which). There's still a slight lag for the camera when I launch it by double-tapping the power button. Other than that, though, lag has all but disappeared for me.

So I previously returned a Nexus 5x because of lag. I bought another 5x at the weekend because I seen them at a great price and this one is fast. No lag, no jitters, nothing. It's very fluid.

Yeah same, didn't notice any lag when I tried it recently.

I have been using my new 5x for about 2 weeks now and have noticed no lag at all. I have put the beta N on and very pleased with battery life and speed. Running much faster than my Moto X Pure.

I just received a 5x today in a trade from a fellow member. I must say, this thing is snappy and very fast! I like the size over the Nexus 6p I had and it feels just as fast to me. I'm still setting it up right now, so we'll see if lag becomes an issue or it slows down?

I am currently using a S7 edge and a iPhone 6s Plus. I plan on selling the iPhone once I can make up my mind on a device. Right now the S7 edge is the front runner...

And apparently broken is not a concept with which you're familiar.

If, by "familiar," you mean: "To which I'm not regularly exposed," then, yes. I tend to avoid stuff that's broken.

I've never had to reboot my Moto G (2013), save following an update/upgrade. Nor the HTC Sensation 4G I had, before it. Nor either of the Palm Centros I had before that. I have never had to reboot any of my computers, at work or at home, over the course of... (thinking... wow...) 38 years, save following an update/upgrade. (Being in I.T., I've worked with a lot of computers and network hardware, over the years.) Other than updates/upgrades: The only time my stuff gets rebooted is if it runs out of power.

Contrary to what those brought up on MS-Windows believe: Any computing device that needs to be restarted on a regular basis is broken by design, implementation, or both.

Thanks. It's always nice to have suspicions confirmed. Broken does not mean it doesn't perform as you want. It means it doesn't perform as designed or manufactured. If you buy a cell phone and it won't make phone calls, it's broken. If you buy a cell phone and it won't predict what number you want to call, that's not broken.

I see. So it's your belief that cell phones are designed & manufactured to have to be rebooted daily?

I have no idea. But, I do use Windows 10 ...
Thanks. It's always nice to have suspicions confirmed ;)

... and laugh at your avoidance because of it's brokenness.
Go ahead and laugh, but, between work and home I currently have eight computers running a variety of Linux/Unix variants, one of which serves as a combined desktop and server (home), none of which have ever been rebooted save as earlier described. They often don't need rebooting even with updates. Generally only updates that affect the running system.

I have long experience with MS-Windows. It's part of my job. So I easily understand why you feel regular reboots is normal behaviour. That experience with it is why I avoid MS-Windows to the extent possible.
