Not liking the Nexus 5X because of lag

Whatever. If you want to reboot every day, I'm not going to stop you. That system clearly works for you.

I was alive in the 70s, but I live now. Could I survive without a smartphone? Sure. Do I want to? No. Do I want to live without the conveniences of modern technology? No.

There is absolutely no reason to reboot your phone every day. Again, if you want to do that, you have a right to do that. But it makes no sense to be all judgey about people not rebooting their phones every day.

Rebooting never fixed my lag issues. I had to do a full factory reset. Once I did that, it's all good... with no nightly reboots. Do what works for you. Let others do what works for them.
Don't think anyone meant to be judgemental, just trying to be helpful and share our OWN experiences.

If your lag is in the camera app, i recommend turning off hdr. It had completely fixed my camera lag so far.. My app switching lag had always been minimal... Much happier now

Isn't there some functionality / quality you sacrifice by turning off HDR?

Somewhat, hdr doesn't activate on every photograph, only when the software thinks it's needed... My guess is that is what's causing the problem, the software trying to analyze the scene on the fly to determine if hdr is needed...

I think there are three modes—HDR off, HDR on, and HDR auto. Perhaps try "on" instead of "auto"? Or vice versa?

I have always preferred to keep HDR off unless I need it. In this case it does have an added benefit.

Nowadays, a lot is based on engines which add bloating to everything. And as one CPU is different from another of the same type you can tell how some have lag and some don't. Manufacturers, please don't give up on the profit share.

Yes i did.

A bit of all, i got WhatsApp, Facebook, Steam, Snapchat, Messenger, Outlook, Twitch, Spotify, Pushbullet, Kik, BBTAN, Smartschool (app to see my school results), Adobe Lightroom. It might seem a lot, but it isn't, it used to be perfectly fine with more apps.

It's also getting hot around the FingerPrint thing and the camera doesn't work, whenever i load an app with camera functions, it shows me a black screen and i can't take any pictures/videos, but this doesn't mean my camera is broken, it works, i know it does because this morning i was able to make pictures with it, but it didnt save them.
Both Front and back don't work. I bought this device for almost 400 euros, it's not able to work properly without it being slow, not able to open tasks, lack of strength in bluetooth etc. this device is bad.

Trust me the March update fixes all of the lag issues. I just sideloaded it and the difference in night and day. It is rolling out now so you should get it on your device soon.

What's FDR? Is it Factory Device Reset? Or is it something like Forced Device Reset? Is there even a difference between the two......like the former is executing it from settings menu, and the latter is executing with the power and volume buttons when powering up?

Apologies. It seems that I've become one of those people (who throw around industry jargon like it is part of everyday language)....

FDR = factory data reset

FDR is a tool used to remove everything that was imported, added or installed on the device. WARNING: When using this feature; everything is deleted. Nothing stored on the MicroSD will be affected.

More info here.

Personally, I always use the Recovery Mode method.

FDR with auto restore DISABLED puts your phone back into its most basic state--there is nothing added so you don't run the risk of re-loading the same problematic configuration (like when auto restore is enabled) over and over again....

What do you need to do to ensure auto restore is disabled? Is this something you disable before you restore or is it an option when restoring?

First, back up everything that you need that is on the phone (pics, docs, app data, etc)

Go into settings>>>backup and reset>>>disable the auto-restore toggle.

THEN do your FDR.

Run your phone for a while long enough to see if the issues you are experiencing go away. If they do, then you know that the stock OS isn't the issue and quite possibly it is either some bad data or some bad app(s) that were causing the problems.

It will take a while to set up your phone again, but it's usually worth it to get a FRESH start.

Many thanks....both for your explanation and the the google link.

I had enough of mine. The last straw was the past couple of days
1) Coming home from work, get in car, try to launch music app. It just "thinks" for a good 10 seconds or so. May sound impatient, but when you're used to smartphones responding right away it's REALLY annoying having all these little delays while memory is swapped out or whatever is happening. Especially if you've had the kind of day at work where you don't want to delay with getting home. It wasn't just the launch time, it was really lagging and holding back the process.

2) Can't remember exactly what, but I was trying to do something last night and again, it lagged. I got annoyed and started jabbing at the app switcher and about 10-15 seconds later the tap buffer unleashed and the app switcher flashed up and down loads of times.

Drives me batty. Bought a 6P, my 5X is destined for eBay.

All the usual suggestions like wiping the cache and factory resetting - they don't really fix the problem, at best they just mask it for a few days. The simple matter is I have it connected to 2 wearable devices and have lots of social media and other apps and a mid range phone just cannot cope with that. And it bothered me as I used to have iPhones and never had to do this kind of thing just to stop it being slow.

So far the 6P is so much better it's unreal. Everything "just responds", none of these really annoying little lags. I'm aware it's early days though, it's a bit like having a freshly wiped cache, so we'll see.

You get what you pay for, I think - I bought into the comments of "why pay that much for a phone when you can have just as good for half the price".... you can't. You can have just as good {as an iPhone} for a bit less, but pay half the price, you get half the phone and if you're spoiled by the snappiness of a £600 phone then you'll get annoyed by a £300 one.
This was on offer at £400 so I'll be very pleased if it remains this snappy.

I definitely relate too and just sold my last week for $265 American dollars. I have been very happy without it. I don't know if it was LG, Google, or just this model was a lemon, but it was definitely the 5X.

Sorry to hear that. I actually returned my 6P. It was a great phone, but too big and too slippery and reminded me too much of my N6. On top of that having a processor that could only be tamed by one manufacturer left me unsettled. My 5X on the other hand has been nearly flawless since the April update and I keep it in rotation with a G5 and a Robin. If it had the G4 camera it would hands down be my favorite phone.
