Not liking the Nexus 5X because of lag

I don't have ten computers. I've had a lot more than that since 1978 but not all at one time. Now, Windows 95 needed not just rebooting but reinstalling the OS frequently. My operating system is, for me, an means to an end and not an end in itself. I don't spend my time playing with the OS but rather using specific software to perform tasks.

Actually, I don't have to reboot my Windows 10 ever. I do turn it off at night and on in the morning. But, whatever you considered brokenness must be valid because brokenness is a term unique to you. I suppose that means you can define it any way you want.

Good-bye.

I have very, very rare lag, and only when I've got many apps open, or switching after viewing a loaded web page. My wife uses SC, and has never complained, but she's not one to really notice anyway.

I think this discussion of the word brokenness has really gotten away on a tangent.

Whether you call it broken or not, there isn't an expectation that smartphones need to be rebooted every day in order to function well. If that's how Google or LG is marketing the Nexus 5x, I haven't seen it (and would love, for anyone who would argue to the contrary, to see actual links to marketing copy to that effect).

That said, my Nexus 5x works just fine, and I rarely reboot it. I don't believe a daily reboot of the phone is necessary or should even be recommended. If you have to reboot your phone daily for it to operate without lag, then there's something wrong with your phone (whether you consider that wrongness "broken" or not).

+1!

I received my 5X last Friday the 1st. Over the last 6 days I have not had any issues with Lag, then again, most of my uses for the phone are simple. At this point I am happy to be on this phone, one of the better I have had in a long time.

Yeah, still loving my 5X too and I've had it since launch (with no lag issues). This year's replacement is looking very nice, though (no camera bump!, and as always I've very tempted. Given my almost total lack of willpower when it comes to replacing my phone once a year, it will be interesting to see if this year's model of the smaller Nexus device will sway me into updating....

Got my 5X last Friday, so far so good. Lag? Well like every Android device I've ever seen it does stutter a little bit here and there and isn't butter smooth scrolling through Facebook, Chrome, etc. But it's miles better than the the Verizon Galaxy S5 it replaced. For $250 I think it's great. For the first time in over a year I have a phone that doesn't make me want to throw it against the wall almost every day. And if I don't like it, I'm not locked into a contract or any particular carrier network. What a breath of fresh air.

+1 for all the points that you made above
  • $250 is a steal for a mid-range phone of this quality
  • no contract
  • great re-sale value

I have not noticed lag in Chrome, but that may be due to the sites that I surf. For everything else, this phone does what I need with aplomb and I could not be happier with it! I am actually tempted to keep it beyond the usual one year, although that sentiment may wane when the smaller 2016 Nexus hits the market later this year since Google finally got the memo that those of us who desire the smaller devices don't necessarily desire lesser specs. Woo hoo!

This phone can easily be had brand spankin' new for $250 for a 32gb model. Try finding another phone that lags less than this one for that price. It won't be easy. Mine has been smooth for a long time now. It lags only a slight bit more than my Galaxy S7 that cost over $700.

Free from carriers grip? Check
Vanilla Android? Check
Best fingerprint scanner (better than my S7)? Check
Above average camera? Check
No bloat? Check
Great, pocket-able form factor? Check
Android N before others? Check
Fast security updates? Check

Shall I go on? I love my Nexus 5X.

+100!!!

Today, on Newegg the Nexus 5X is selling for $235!!! Makes waiting 9 mos pretty appealing!!!

My 5X started lagging really bad, and suspected it was an app I loved, so I ignored it for a while. Eventually though, I had to uninstall it and since then it's been fine. The app was Weather Underground. It would stop working after being in the background for a certain period of time. Once I uninstalled it and installed a different app, my 5X has been running fine. Just something to think about if you have a lot of lag...

I hope you gave the devs of Weather Underground a heads up so that they can fix it and you can re-install it at a later date :)

I use Transparent Weather Clock as my weather app and it gives me a choice of three providers of weather information with one being Weather Underground. Works fine.
