Not receiving notifications on my Gear S2

They're working fine for me on my S2 Classic 4G since getting it yesterday.
I was skeptical at first since I also have the "S2 Sport" & it was having problems similar to the OP. After a few days of inconsistent Notifications I gave up & haven't powered it back on. Now I might though since there's likely/hopefully an update available to fix the Notification problems making them work as well as they do on my S2 Classic 4G.

For comparisson, I'm wearing it right next to my Watch Urbane 2nd Edition LTE & when a Notification arrives on my phone, it also appears on both watches.

Make sure you've enabled Galaxy Gear within your phone's "Notification Access".
Also, check if there's an update to the S2 available within the Gear App. There was for mine but as I said, I just bought it yesterday.

I have solved my issue with not receiving any notifications on my Gear S2 since my Galaxy S6 Edge updated to the Marshmallow operating system. I had done a factory reset on the watch and that didn't help. I had verified every setting and still received no notifications on my smartwatch. I cleared the cache on my phone and everything is working perfectly now.
To do this on the S6, just restart the phone while holding the "volume up", "home" and "power" buttons all at the same time until the recovery menu appears. Use the "Volume down" button to scroll down and select "wipe cache partition". When this completes, scroll up to the reboot phone option and you are done. Don't worry about damaging the phone, the cache partition is just temporary files and those temp files are what was creating the conflict that caused my issue. It all works as it should again. Thank you everyone for your input.:D

I'm using an S7. In order to get to the wipe cache, does my phone need to be off first before holding these 3 buttons? I've tried doing this before and it reset my phone. I'm trying to avoid that from happening.

Yes. Power off the phone, hold the 3 buttons until it powers up . Then an android shows and the screen days something about updating the firmware or something like that. Just ignore it and it'll go away in about 30 seconds and take you to the screen where you can wipe the cache partition. When that screen shows up just use the volume down button to scroll down to the cache wipe option. Tap the power button. You'll see some dialog as its doing the wipe. At that point it'll go back to the reboot option and you can either repeat the cache partition wipe as you've just done or just tap the power button and it'll reboot into a normal power up.
Hope that helps I wipe my partition about once a month or when I notice a sudden drop in performance or battery life if I forgot to do it.

I cant seem to access this. When I press and hold the volume up, power, and home buttons at the same time and boot, it brings me to a maintenance menu and wipe cache partition is not an option. What am I doing wrong? I even watched a couple of videos but the Android guy is not popping up on mine.

How long are you leaving the phone off before trying? Leave it off for at last minute next time. It seems like you're doing it right so other than it might not be powered down totally I'm not sure what else to suggest.

I just shut my off my phone for about 5 minutes. Then I held the volume up, home, and power buttons and the device powered on. The initial galaxy s7 screen comes up and then turns black. A few seconds later, the maintenance menu comes up with options like normal boot, factory reset, etc. Ive tried releasing the buttons sooner but the phone just boots as normal. I can't understand what I would be doing wrong.

Does it look similar to this when the maintenance screen is there?

If so that's the menu you're looking for

It looks similar but does not have these options listed. At the top in the picture it says Android data recovery. On mine it says android maintenance menu and I have different options listed and wipe cache partition is not one of them.

I have tried that on my S7 and the "wipe cache partition" operation all went fine but still no notification on my Gear S2...
Is there anyway to check if the phone sends the notification and/or if the gear s2 is receiving them?

The factory reset of the Gear S2 and restore of the backup did fix the problem...

Can someone tell me why I am not receiving calls on my new S2 I received with my S7 edge? I get notifications and all but do not receive calls. I am connected by Bluetooth. Any suggestions?

So I've had a Gear S2 Classic for about a month now. Initially, I couldn't get notifications to work--called T-Mobile tech support, etc. Then, for some reason, they just started working. Don't know how/why. Worked fine. Was using an LG V10.

Then, I pre-ordered the Galaxy Note 7. When it arrived, I connected the watch as I'm supposed to. No notifications...again. And, again, for some reason, they just started working. Don't know how/why.

Earlier this week, got my replacement Note 7--you know, one that shouldn't burn my house down--and connected the watch...again, no notifications. Been reading through all of this, nothing is working. I did receive exactly ONE notification this morning from a text. I really don't know why but nothing else is working and no more text notifications. Again, tried everything listed here.

How do you back up what's on the watch so, when you have to do a factory reset to connect to a new phone (absolutely the most RIDICULOUS thing I've ever heard of), I don't lose everything. Wouldn't be as bad if the Samsung app center (or whatever they call it) would give me the list of watchfaces, etc. I had installed so I could just re-download/install them but I can't find anything like this.

Anyway, I'm quite frustrated with the watch.

The worst/best(?) part is, I got the Gear Fit 2 and have had not ONE problem getting it to receive notifications over both phones now. Just works as it should. But not this watch...

I stopped into the T-Mobile store today to see if they could help me. Amazingly, they were able to help me. They turned off/on Call Forwarding. That seemed to make it work. Don't know why but it's working all day now.

Are any of you using the "Always On" mode? (I know always on is super broken and doesn't work the way it sounds like it should... but that's for another tread...) Whenever I turn on Always On I stop getting most notifications. Sometimes one will miraculously slip through, but for the most part the watch is dormant other than the watch face being on (until the watch decides "to heck with always on!" and turns itself off that is...). So maybe try disabling Always On if you have it on. Works for me until it's been long enough that I forget how broken that mode is and I enable it again. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

On the Gear device, there is a Do Not Disturb function that may have been turned on. Mine was and I stopped receiving notifications for 2 weeks until I found it on my Gear. To locate it, when your watch is visible, pull down/drag down o the screen from the top of the watch bezel and touch this icon to turn it on/off

Thank you so much for posting this solution! I just purchased a Gear S2 for my daughter and am now using it to help her with her ADD. As with many others, I was having issues with notifications not firing. After hearing about the terrible Samsung customer service I grew skeptical. I am very grateful that you posted this solution as it was the only thing that worked. Thank you once again!

I have the same problem. I have the S2 paired with an S6 Edge. Everything was working fine until both the phone and the watch got software updates last week. I have not received any notifications since. All the settings on the phone and the watch are correct. I took the drastic step of doing a factory reset on the watch and I am still not receiving any notifications. I was a little choked that the trusted devices feature was left out of the Marshmallow update. Without that and the notifications, my smartwatch, is just a watch.

I had to do a soft reset on my watch and uninstall and reinstall the Gear app. All is perfect now.

Hi there! I had the same problem and I'm using the Galaxy S6 Edge with the 6.0.1 update, followed your instructions and solved it!!!!:):):):)

Thank you!
