Not receiving texts. VZW blaming GB update

Found the fix for the text message issue on another forum:

"I called HTC support and got a fix for the text messaging problem! Go to settings/ then applications and check the box to receive from unknown sources, then go to dl3.htc.com/misc/inc8049.apk when you hit enter its gonna download a thing called hot fix, and after a couple mins your texts should all flood in!"

This worked! Thanks Verizon but I will pass on the $300 phone for now!

How many times did you all have to call before they decided to send her a new phone. We've called five times over three days.

Sorry it took so long to answer this. It only took one phone call, the replacement they sent turned out to be someone elses phone so they had to send another, turns out it had all kinds of problems so they upgraded her to a incredible 2 for free.

edit: I forgot to mention that the phone was over a year old and out of warranty but they still replaced it for free. She got it in July of 2010.

I'd like to report that this worked for my wife as well. Installed the hotfix and now she's getting text messages again. She was on the phone with the Verizon and I got curious and found this thread. The patch worked flawlessly and she's back in business. Now if only somebody will figure out root for GB we'll be set! The Verizon rep said that HTC would be pushing this patch out early this week since it's a known issue, and a big one at that.

so grateful for the forum. I was having the same issue. Just noticed it yesterday. Installed the fix and all is well. Kind of irritating VZW can't provide the support and we have to find it on the forum but thank god for the forum.

Just wanted to say the above mentioned fix did the trick for me just now. My wife and I both have HTC Incredible's on Verizon, bought at the exact same time, and all the settings and version info were exactly the same. I stopped receiving texts just this weekend, sometime overnight from Dec 9-10. She did not have this problem. One problem I was having before this happened was I had been getting a phone low on storage message for about a week before I figured out how to make that go away... had to clear data, clear cache from a bunch of apps.

i spent two hours on the phone with customer support and then got transfered to an advanced technician who guided me to factory reset my phone. apparently that didnt work. after im off the phone with him, i quickly google the problem and this was the first result. I downloaded and installed hotfix and i could not be happier. thank you so much Fyiders for your post because you helped me solve the problem that even a verizon advanced tech couldnt even help me solve!

I did what was said about checking unknow sources but where do you type in the
dl3.htc.com/misc/inc8049.apk because it is not working. do you type where the www is. do you delete www? google search?
