Note 10 (standard) vs. S10 (standard)

didn't know the 10 has all four cameras and everything about them is the same. the screen, though, I read was different. different specs. it al comes down to the SD for me. I insist on one and that was the decider, and always will be.
It doesn't have 4 cameras, smaller one doesn't have the time of flight camera the Note 10+ has. But that's only used for the 3D gimmick thing so regular features like live focus video and all camera features work on both 10 and 10+.

I have the 10+ but would have been fine with 10 as well since the 4th camera, missing SD card, HD+ only resolution are all not that big deal to me personally. I just thought for $150 more the 10+ is a better buy at the moment and I could deal with the bigger phone. But for people who absolutely don't want big phones the Note 10 is still a great phone if you want a S-PEN in smaller phone.

A few days in and I am loving the standard 10, feels like it sits in a sweet spot size wise, the S10 is slightly smaller but somehow the Note manages to feel just a little better in the hand and the extra 0.2” on the diagonal gives extra screen space that is not as insignificant as it may sound. The screen resolution is a non-issue for me.

The FPS seems more reliable (I still prefer and miss a rear mounted one though) and I prefer the steeper curve which for me at least leads to fewer accidental touches, I am also a lefty so liking the new power button location, I can understand right handers feeling different though as the FPS on S10e annoyed the hell out of me! Battery is Ok, not as good as the plus or S10+ as you’d expect but respectable for a Samsung, as with all Samsung’s the standby time lacks vs other devices but overall battery is fine. Would have liked a different colour but black is the best one available in the UK, it is also a shame that the ceramic option from the S10+ was not available, really hope they keep offering this on the S11.

My main beefs are Samsung rather than Note related, really dislike Samsungs gestures so use them for the swipe up only and have either one handed operation plus or fluid NG for the back and app switcher, even with this gestures are still not as slick as other manufacturers though. Samsung phones also still seem to use more power than others when sitting doing nothing and of course we will have the annual wait for the next version of android. The Pixel 4 is on my radar (but sadly looks like it has again fallen from the ugly tree) and if OnePlus ever provide features like wireless charging or an always on display then they would then be a compelling option too.

Anyway I digress…..in closing I really like the standard note and I would say if the price is not an issue and 256gb is enough storage then it is my preferred option over the S10 and I would absolutely recommend it, however being totally honest for most people a standard S10 would still be the better buy and is a terrific device too.

I think the standard Note 10 is too crippled to be worth £950. If the S Pen isn't necessary then the S10 would be a much better buy and is much cheaper

How is it crippled? The only thing wrong with the note 10 is the price. But crippled? It does everything

It's crazy how ppl think the regular note 10 is so inferior when it really isn't. The display is fantastic even though it isn't quad HD, honestly it's a great panel. Same horsepower inside the phone with 8 gigs of RAM which is now than enough. Same cameras except the time of flight one that doesn't matter much. The 2 differences that matter are the battery size and the SD card. But for me I rather have something note manageable in hand and the note 10 works great plus it lasts me the whole day. And 256 gigs of storage is plenty. I will say that it is overpriced but then again I think the note 10 plus is overpriced as well.

Battery size and SD card is enough reason to bump to the plus IMO

Ya know it's the "backlash" of those who see the Note as "inferior" that's causing such a low resale value only 2 weeks after release.

When in all actuality, it's a manageable note that you can use with one hand that does 95% of what the bigger model does...

Really weird how the android space works, all it takes is one guy to say something and everything sucks about it and it's a worthless phone while the XR was bashed for having a crappy screen and being pretty freakin heavy and not much smaller than the XS MAX and still ended up selling pretty well.

Funny.....

A week in with the standard note and my view has changed a little, mostly due to battery which has not been great and has been a noticeable step down on the plus. Samsung have never been great for standby and no matter how aggressive I get with disabling stuff they can never compete with other devices, I have found the standard note to be especially poor in this regard though, it drops to 99% within a few minutes of coming off of charge and then drops around 5% an hour when just sitting there doing nothing.

I still think that the size is terrific but I would say that the standard note has a battery that needs managing if you are out and about away from power all day. Maybe having used a Huawei device for a while I have just got used to not worrying about battery life but on the surface it looks like the new Exynos really is not bringing that many improvements to the table at least not for power management.

Lastly there is also that intangible sense of compromise that comes with the smaller model! So in short one week in, I still like it a lot but am maybe just a little conflicted. YMMV

It depends what you are looking for in a phone, they are both certain to be good devices but in the Note will come with a pen, be slightly bigger and cost a little more.

If a pen and bigger screen is what you want, go for the Note 10.

5G is the only other consideration if you want to future proof your device. The s10 has it so it's future proofed, note 10 should be as good as s10 specs.

Most on this forum aren't concerned with future proofing, by the time 5G is a thing most on here will have had 3 or 4 plus new phones by then. Future proofing thinking on this forum is justification on buying a new phone or easy way to talk spouse into letting us get a new phone.

Save your money on the 5G phones now, it's to early and will be a little while before it's worth going to it, definitely not worth paying extra for it

Actually, with Verizon I got the 10+ 5G for slightly less than the non 5G. I actually saved a couple bucks a month.

Either way, 5G is not ready for prime
time yet. Maybe it will be by note 11. Has a ways to go. I put my extra money towards the 512 version, more useful now

I switched from note 9 to s10+ for same reason. I sometimes miss the s pen since I've been a note user since note 2. But, I wouldn't go for note 10+ ever (too big to manage on the go) or note 10 (unlike most ppl I DO notice the difference in resolution FHD and QHD). If Note 10 had QHD display I might have thought about it but for now, s10+ is big enough to do all my work/play tasks and light enough to manage on the go.

I do sometimes miss the s pen but only when I take screenshots to crop. I guess it doesnt affect my workflow and that's a sacrifice I am willing to make. I suggest you go for s10+. Its the best decision I've made and I'll only switch to s11 IF the camera is mind blowing AND it has 90Hz display

Honestly the S10+ feels noticeably larger than the standard note and is closer to the note 10+ IMO.

A big plus for the standard 10 is offers a good size screen in a phone that really does not feel big at all. It like a smaller iPhone X in the hand

Screen isn't good on the note 10. Any version of the s10 is gonna look much better.

Make sure you load up a video and compare both phones imo.

That's a load of crap. I have a Note 10 and a Note 10+ and you really, really have to strain to notice any difference.

Your average user won't notice the difference or won't care because unless you're nit-picking, the FHD screen will still look good.
