Note 3 - FM Radio tuner???

Nothing better than sirius/xm. That is what I listen to plus podkicker pro for all my podcast... Did not realize people still listed to that old form of entertainment,, terrestrial radio lol

IT'S TRUE,, SIZE IS EVERYTHING!

I just read the specs on the Note 2 and it included a FM tuner.

None of the phones with lte have had a fm radio .... the international had one but it doesn't have the lte chip ... the lte chip on note 2 had fm but the carriers disabled it ... and it will be the same thing again

Are you saying that none of the Samsung phones with LTE have had an FM radio? The HTC One is an LTE phone and it has an FM radio.

That's why I buy unlocked/unbranded (simlock free) phones only.
With a sim-only plan of my choice.
That's here in Holland.

I have no idea how the system works in the US

That's HTC not Samsung,, he said "none of the Samsung phones"

Here is the detailed technical datasheet posted by PDAdb.net (Snapdragon SM N9005) :
Samsung SM-N9005 Galaxy Note 3 LTE 32GB Detailed Specs | Technical Datasheet | PDAdb.net

Over there the presence of FM Radio is specified:
Analog Radio: FM radio (87.5-108MHz) with RDS radio reciever
Proprietary headset as antenna

De exynos version ( according to their datasheet) also got FM Radio but with other frequencies

Here are the specs of the Exynos ( SM N900):

The mistery continues ...

Is it possible Samsung offers it, but carriers will have it removed, say AT&T and/or Verizon.

They changed it recently. It did say at one point the Note 3 had an FM Stereo radio.

Where did he mention Samsung in the post that I quoted?

True the htc has a radio but really I dont give a damn about htc they lost me as a customer with the 3d ... I have had nothing but samsung since ... I will get the note 3 and I will then get the nexus 5 and I will keep which one I like the most ...probably the nexus ...but it was kind of inferred as we are talking about samsung that was what I was talking about .....
I would not even buy a humongous tinfoil catamaran from them

From my understanding, the FM Radio capability was left out on the Note 3 to be replaced by the IR Blaster. I expected that the reported lack of the FM radio might be a serious consideration for some people moving up from the Note 2.
Something like a FM Tuner can be a "Special Niche" option; most people don't use it, but those that do REALLY make use of it. For me, while podcasts and streaming audio are great, I cannot get by without the local news and entertainment options provided by my local public radio station.

I do intend to get a Note 3, but thanks to this thread, I may have to add getting a used Creative Zen to have some radio options along with it.

I remember FM radio. Wow, the old days. Yeah we used to have to listen to a bunch of commercials and a pontificating DJ with our music. Young folks today don't realize how good they have it. I should turn the FM on in my car just to see if there's still old radio stations like that around. Wow how time flies....

The RIAA has been pushing to have FM radio included in cell phones for a while now. Even tried legislation. They're trying to prop up any revenue stream they can at this point.

Note 3 has a fm app. I uninstalled it. I would never use it. But it's there for those who do.

THE BEAST,,NOTE 3. SIZE IS EVERYTHING!!!

What was the name of the FM Radio app that you had? I don't see one on my Note 3, but it could be because we are on different carriers.

I forgot the name,, I will try to find it. EDIT : I can't find the name. All I know is I am on sprint and when I seen the app I read the description and it was to listen to all the local fm stations and you needed to have headphones plugged in to use it. I immediately uninstalled it.. Now I don't know where I would find it. There must be another sprint note 3 out there who can help.

The app on sprint for fm radio is NextRadio

I just picked up my Sprint Note 3 yesterday and indeed, as others have said it has not only the FM tuner but also the IR blaster. NextRadio is the FM app included and it has a station guide built in. Unfortunately that guide get a couple of stations in this area (Salt Lake City) wrong and my fruitless search for alternative FM apps that might be better brought me here.

Galling that the app is only available on Sprint. The Play store says it is incompatible with my devices including my Note 3. Presumably I have the hardware. Does anyone have an apk of it that could be sideloaded onto my device? I really miss the FM radio when I'm out walking my dogs as the data reception is too poor to consistently listen to TuneIn Radio.
