Note 3: What are people actually using the S Pen for?

Most people don't use the s pen much!

Thanks Madd54. I got it to open, appearing as a task in the Calendar. I don't use the Action Memo much at all. The phone does so much more than I currently need but its so good to keep learning about it!

I haven't been in a note taking situation in the few days since I've gotten my Note, but based on my testing of it I expect it will be great for lectures.

I would suggest you try out the app Lecture Notes. There is a trial version that allows for a couple notebooks. There are many options in settings to set things up just the way you want. Among other things, two things it has that you mentioned wanting in your other thread is Direct Pen Input and disabling the back key (optional).

If you try it, the Direct Pen Input (in case you can't find it) is enabled by clicking on the keyboard icon up top - not the pen icon. The pen icon is used to draw. It also supports multi-window functionality. Too many options to list here so I'll let you look into it for yourself if you are interested.

Just played around with LectureNotes for a few, this will be perfect! Now if only sharing to Google Drive was in Word or OO format it would be all I need.
I keep discovering more and more cool features of the direct input box: for example I can cross out to delete, or write over text that has already converted, which makes errors of interpretation much more bearable. It has a lot of trouble with capital vs lowercase and 1's vs commas.

I don't understand your query, but I don't use Action Memo much.

If you wrote in the action memo then there will be dots or lines from where you keep your hand also, which doesn't happen in s note as it has the s pen only mode .. These will need to be erased before you can link to whatever task you plan to or there will be errors in interpretation

I understand some of that.
I just wish it would have recognised my handwriting from an early stage and I could have used so many more features. Although my Note 3 purchase coincided with a work slowdown for several reasons so I have less desire to learn or use those features. Ah well.

Re: What are people actually using the S Pen for?

I thought that was Apple only. Is there an Android Penultimate? But that is the type of thing the s-pen is perfect for.

Oh I'm not sure, actually. I just know about Penultimate from Evernote (saw it discussed once as a companion to EN). I imagine there are similar applications for Android, though? For note-taking and sketching?

Well, its about damned time!

Hi5 to the sV

That's mostly already in the Evernote app. Also the LectureNotes app i mentioned previously has a lot of functionality.

Interesting, thanks. I'm actually an s5 user right now, but it's like once you get a bigger screen... you can't help but be intrigued by an even BIGGER screen. Hence my curiosity about the Note. :p

I highly recommend the Note 3. But since you just got a new phone, you may be happy enough waiting until the Note 4 in the fall/late summer. There are also built-in pen apps like S-Note, which has a variety of functions, and Action Memo (this one is just for quick notes) and there are drawing specific apps like Sketchbook. There's a lot you can do with it. When you're ready for a new phone, definitely check it out.

Will do! I did just get the S5 so I'll be sticking with it for a little while and will see what future editions bring and if I can resist the temptation to snag one! (I'm sure the 3 is a great phone, but it just makes sense for me to wait for a future one since my current phone is so new as you said. This is my first time delving into the Android world, by the way, and I feel like I can do so much MORE than I could do on my previously beloved iPhone! Even before installing a launcher it just felt so customizable.)

Yeah...that may be why I went with an S5 AND Note 3.
