Hey guys

Just got my note 4 today and it is quite nice although as I did a lot of drawing on my note 3, I've loaded up the same apps and something is note quite right, on the note 3 I never had to play with settings and it had quite a nice light pressure sensitivity, I've set my brushes up the same on both devices and the note 4 pen just doesn't have the same light pressure

The thing is if I use the note 3 pen on the note 4 it works as it should, so i know it's not the phone but the pen, I've tried the nib from my note 3 on the 4 but no difference

Is there any way to adjust the note 4 pen?

Here is a picture from sketch book of the two pens, as you can see the note 3 pen is a lot lighter than the 4

This topic came up a while ago with no solution. I think people just accepted that... "it is what it is".

The Note 4 screen doubled in pressure sensitivity (2048 from 1024 on Note 3) so even very light pressure will show a dark line. However, that doesn't explain why a Note 3 pen works as expected on your Note 4. It can only be explained by the fact that the Note 3 pen must also have properties that make it different from a Note 4 pen. This video shows someone who changed the sensitivity of a Note 2 pen and beginning at about 1:03 in the vid, you can see that when he draws a line with the S pen hovering, it's lighter than the line he draws when the pen actually touches the screen. So, I'm guessing that your Note 3 pen is less sensitive to the field of the Note 4 screen, and so it draws lighter on the Note 4. Perhaps if you're brave, you can attempt to adjust your Note 4 pen to work the same as your Note 3 pen.

Thanks for the reply :)

Sadly it looks like the note 4 spen does not have the same pot adjust as the older ones :(

The note 3 pen draws a nice light line (shown in my picture) on both the note 3 and note 4, and the note 4 pen perform's the same on either device :(

I guess it's something I can live with and work around, or carry around the note 3 pen :D

So the hardware is all down the pen (given the same results on both devices)

Well, that's unfortunate there's no adjustment. Thanks for being brave enough to find out for yourself, though. Your information will certainly help other people come to the same conclusion that it's the Note 4 pen itself.

However, now, I may have to go out and buy a Note 3 pen! LOL!

Well before you buy a note 3 pen (as it doesnt fit in the holder)

I was meant to try this morning before i left for work my surface pen

The positive is, The surface pen also works like the note 3 pen, which given that it is all wacom im guessing most will work (if i could find where my bamboo pen has vanished to and ive got an aftermarket one somewhere else)

The surface pen behaves the same as the note 3 meaning a light touch will result in a light line. The down side to all this is, in my opinion, the note 4 spen is rubbish.

Now im not an amazing artist at all and there are alot of talented people out there that probably dont have any issues etc For me though, i like being able to do a light sketch without having to adjust all brush settings to do the same thing and it all just feels a bit 'off'

One other downside to these tests, i thought it was my surface playing up calibration, turns out its my pen that is off :D one issue after another :)

Yah, I know the Note 3 Pen is larger in diameter (I think). Is it also longer? My Note 10.1 2014 tablet's S Pen is wider and longer than the Note 4 S pen. I wonder if the Note 3 pen will fit the tablet pen silo?

Well, I can tell you that even if you find your Bamboo pen, it won't work. I just tried mine and nothing. It can't even control the screen of my Note 4 or tablet. I pulled it out after you mentioned it just to test it.

Well, I'm no artist at all, but I do like to have drawing tools. I use Sketchbook, and also bought Artflow just for messing around or when I need to draw something to explain something to someone. Works well enough for that. One thing I did is backed up the Sketchbook apk on my Note 4, and transferred/installed it onto my Note 10. The Note 4 version is higher and so it installed and works very well on the tablet. Much easier to use on the tablet with the bigger screen.

I love using sketchbook pro........got the new version as well, it's OK but not quite as good aha. Infinite painter is quite nice although a little unstable

I think you are right about the bamboo, I remember having to buy a new stylus for a laptop and I'm sure I would have tried that first

Atleast the plus side is, if you have a note 4 and you want lighter pen pressure.......get a note 3 stylus pretty much :D heh or any penenabled wavom stylus...... from watching a video, note 3 tracks the best and others will give an offset,

I'm half thinking of just putting the note 3 stylus in a new case and just using that for my surface and phones :D

I just realized my Note 10.1 pen actually draws lighter lines on my tablet and Note 4. Moreso in Artflow than in Sketchbook, but lighter for sure. I believe the Note 3 and Note 10.1 2014 edition came out the same time... in Sep 2013. I wonder if the pens are built the same inside. Is your Note 3 pen and Note 4 pen the same "length"?

My Note 10.1 pen is both thicker and longer. Note 4 on the bottom... (as if that wasn't obvious from my comments!) ;)

Yah, the Bamboo doesn't work!

Yea believe the note 10/8 are the same pens / hardware although the note 3 pen is very slightly longer

Atleast it gives you an option if you want a lighter drawing :D and doing all this has let me know what my issue is on my surface....and I may even use that again (I do like sketching on the note though)

Hi dear friend . It seems that just some brushes and applications support pressure !
I tested it in my note 4 in s note with calligraphy brush and it works!
I tried to do them at the same time just with different pressure .
Take a look at it : note4pressure.jpg

I personally use Autodesk Sketchbook and it works fine for me.
