Note 5 Battery life thread

Hello,

I've had a similar problem. Started using the Note 5 last week and the battery has gone from bad to almost defunct. Recharging it is now pretty much impossible and I'm obviously going to send it back. As I'm from UK, I had to get the phone from Ebay and it may be the Hong Kong version. I've ordered a new one from US and hope it works. Are you aware of many people having issues? The model is 9200

Haha. It won't. Confirmed on my friend's Note 5. Already showing wear and nothing he can do about it (sealed back). Down to 8 hours a day until fully drained, if lucky. Now he is fully turning the phone off during slow times of the day, just so he has power to make it home and recharge fully.

My replacement Note 5 - 21:45 on a full charge with 5:15 SOT. Could have got 7+ hours of SOT easily with less idle time or 2 days idle with less SOT. Seems to be on par with my original Note 5.

Sounds good to me.

Got new Note 5 (Verizon), coming from Note 3.
Battery life is BAD when WiFi is on and connected.
Went from 100% to 25% overnight when the phone was idling ("cell standby" used 35% of battery)
With WiFi off it drains from 100% to 95% overnight, just like my old Note 3.

I really like the phone but basically forced not to use WiFi, or else gotta charge 2 times a day.
Is there a fix?

Thanks

All i know it's a Verizon bug you will have to wait for them to fix that.

Showing wear? You do realize that 8 hours a until fully drained isn't wear. That is a defective battery. Sealed back does not mean you can't change the battery. It's just harder to do and not on the fly thing. Not to mention he can probably get it fix under warranty because his device is in fact a manufacturers defect.

Besides that saying it's "already showing wear" is just plain ignorant. It's going to wear like every other phone battery. Like all things, if the phone battery is well-maintained, it will last longer than if drained to 0 everyday. Now even if the phone is drained every day the battery won't really show wear worth noting until over a year.

This^

I heard not all people from Verizon are having this problem. You can try to exchange it and hope you get lucky with one that doesn't have this issue. Othet then that you'll have to wait for Verizon to fix it.

Yea, I'm seeing there are complaints here since June, if it hasn't been fixed in 6 months do you think they'll fix it in the future?
When you contact VZ customer support they start with usual BS like: "let's go to safe mode" or "let's check the background processes that might drain your battery" or the usual "reset to factory defaults". And as people mentioned nothing helps with that

Yes, I'm sure they will fix it. Remember marshmallow is on its way to the note 5.

So the only hope is Marshmallow? Lollipop won't be fixed?
Supposedly Note 5 will get Marshmallow sometimes in December 2015. But I doubt that.
In the meantime I gotta keep my phone with WiFi off...
Ridiculous...

If it's fixed in M, why should they waste time finding a temporary solution until M is released?

I had this issue for the longest time where I was losing 6-8% every hour overnight on standby. On average i was losing less than 1% every hour on LTE...everything else being equal. I didn't use WiFi for the longest time. It was same on mine and my wife's Note 5.

Then Verizon sent update for Samsung Pay and other improvements... That essentially fixed it... Did a better job on my phone than my wife's but definitely made a huge difference. Now maybe I will lose 12-15% on 8 hours overnight on WiFi vs 5-6% on LTE.

I still think they need to improve it further but at least it's usable now.

I'm a vzw guy with wifi drain. Unfortunately it seems Colorado doesn't have very good 4g. I'm locked into unlimited so idc about data use, but without wifi I get horrible signal and no data.

I noticed that in airplane mode with wifi on the drain isn't bad. I think that'll be what I stick to once wifi calling comes out

I am not one bit surprised that its better when its only on WiFi...this bug seems to kill battery only when BOTH LTE and WiFi are on at the same time.
