Note 5 - Does the faster charger have negative effects? Could it degrade the phone's battery faster?

I was reading somewhere (XDA, Reddit or here?) that using the fast charger to charge the phone, could actually degrade the phones battery life faster. I know this sounds ridiculous, but I wasn't entirely sure if it could or not. Any help would be great, thanks!

Re: Can using the fast charger that shipped with the phone, have negative side effects?

I find that the phone gets really heatef up when fast charging and i read that it is not good for the battery if it gets heated..so i stopped using fast charging unless it is needed

I've had no issues with heating using the adaptive charger. In fact, the Note 5 is the coolest, temperatures wise, phone I've owned.

I'm not gonna lie i do see a small difference. But the difference is like 10 to 15mins but ive had it since the Saturday it came out so it could be just time wearing it down. My note 4 started to slip a lil after about a year too. But it also could be because i run my phone hard too (doubles as my work phone). So theres too many variables to just point at 1 thing or the other.

Thanks for all the responses guys! I think I'll use my other cable, and keep the fast charge one for emergencies.

I think it's telling that Samy is making it possible to turn off fast charging with the S7. Why do that unless fast charging has some bad side effects?

I'm also curious about long-term effects of wireless versus wired charging. I'm probably being paranoid, but not having access to change the battery made me this way!

That's totally inaccurate

Fast charging for the Note 5, is what actually SAVES the phone! As the phone is getting 'slightly older' (by four months), the battery is degrading by heavy use, and not by fast charging.

It's the fast charging that gets me up in action quickly, either at home, in the car, or office, with the 2.0 Anker fast chargers or 2.0 battery pack.

Get some rock solid cables, like the ones from Anker or elsewhere and use it with the Samsung or Anker or another 2.0 fast charger.

The s7 isn't the first phone to have that option. We had the option to turn off fast charging on the note 4.

To charge normally note 5 is by using norma charger. Is it safe?

Temperature around the phone has a larger effect on battery life than the charging method. Hot summer climates tend to wear down batteries faster than cool climates. Tons of good apps to keep an eye on battery quality. I use AMPERE to monitor charge rate and battery quality. If anything the wireless charging has a stronger chance of hurting it since the magnetic field can move metal slowly over time. Some usb are cords are too long on the wireless chargers and dont charge it fast enough. I've been using fast wall chargers, fast charging battery packs from Samsung and wireless chargers from Samsung. So far no noticeable battery life depletion after 3 months or so.
