Note 5 S-Pen issue

When I remove the s-pen from my note 5, I get the air command menu, but the device doesn't respond to the touch of the s-pen. I have 3 s-pens here and they all act the same.

What might my problem be?

Unfortunately it sounds like the hardware used to 'sense' the S-Pen is damaged (it's separate from the touch digitizer and OLED panel, so while touch input might still work and no visible damage to the screen, the S-Pen might not work if that's the case). It can be something as simple as a loose connector or a burnt coil, but it's still something I'd recommend having a repair shop taking a look at.

I agree with SpookDroid and suggest you try an S-Pen test at the menu by dialling (via phone dialler) this USSD:
*#0*#
(I hope this works on your device like it does on mine).
Look at the bottom left corner of the menu and select S PEN HOVERING. That's where you can test the sensing hardware SpookDroid is taking about.

After dialling *#0*# you should see this menu

Thanks for that! Forgot you could test it separately!

Also having issues with my S Pen. Mine is most likely related to the phone's hardware since I ordered a new S Pen from Amazon and still the same problems.

*#0*# does nothing on my Verizon Note 5. I've heard some carriers disable that feature. When I called Verizon tech support, the rep I spoke to never heard of *#0*# and could not confirm whether Verizon disables it. I allowed her access to my phone to share screens and showed her a YouTube video of somebody entering *#0*# to bring up the aforementioned test menu. She also could not figure out why my S Pen wasn't working correctly and referred me to a Verizon store.
