Note 5 - Upper Left Screen Unresponsive and Crap Bletooth

Hey all, I guess I'm just slabbing my own cement to the wall of these kind of complaints. Two weeks with the phone, the upper left hand of the screen is completely unresponsive. Thinking its a hardware problem, I tilt it into Landscape, yet the corner that was previously frozen, works fine--while the NEW 'upper left hand corner' has become unresponsive. This also happens in the middle of the phone on the right hand of the screen. Thing is, whenever those spots go unresponsive, I fire up the system check in the keypad (*#0*#) and the Touch screen test passes with flying colors, registering touch fine until I exit back to phone menu. A simple restart fixes it, but the locations house the android app menus and the text message send buttons, respectively. Furthermore, the Bluetooth sucks. I've tried EVERYTHING suggested by forums, samsung, etc. It seems to only work if Bluetooth device is a foot away. It mildly improves to about 5 feet with no WiFi, or strangely enough, if I connect to the router's 5ghz channel. Any suggestions, or is it time to roll the AT&T Certified Like Poo dice?
-Cheers

Re: Upper lEft Screen Unresponsive and Crap Bletooth

Welcome to Android Central! Does the touchscreen issue disappear in Safe Mode? https://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-23216. If so, then some 3rd party app is probably causing that issue.

Bluetooth uses the 2.4 GHz bandwidth, so it's theoretically possible for 2.4 GHz wi-fi channels to interfere. Log into your router's settings and try manually changing the wi-fi channel that the router uses.

Re: Upper lEft Screen Unresponsive and Crap Bletooth

Sorry for the long delay. ATT has replaced the phone, which fixed the Bluetooth. But the same screen problems persist. I've now had three of these phones with the exact same issue. Either the top left, right or middle of the screen becomes unresponsive--requiring a reboot. I've tried to keep the phone barebones as possible. But the screen issue returns, again, only in those specific areas--no where else on the screen. I would have no problem ignoring it, but the areas house important phone functions. I've taken the phone to the AT&T and Samsung device support centers. They just shrug and reflash it, once without asking me, deleting wedding photos I had taken at my best friends marriage. Honestly, this has soured me on Samsung and android, I will return to iphone as soon as possible.

I am literally only using the phone function and have removed all apps, including the Web browser. Except for the camera, which is incredible, this phone is a dismal conglomeration of glitches and conflicting software.

I am on my 5th Note 5 with the exact same issue. Have jumped through all the hoops with Samsung and my carriers tech guys. Have started in safe mode, etc. It is something in the fundamental hardware of the Note 5; simply flawed. My daughters seems to work, though; so we are batting 1 for 6.

Not to express relief at your problems, but I thought I was cursed. I am thinking it's the TouchWiz UI and AT&T (whoever decided that android, samsung, and at&t should all contribute firmware should be slapped). Considering switching to Nova but am afraid introducing another software variable would not only be useless, but potentially harmful. Thoughts?

Try it. You already have the problem anyway and Nova is a better ui anyway.

It would be an amazing phone if it worked properly. The camera is unparalleled and the specs are theoretically great. I think a great deal of complications stem from integral software generated by three different entities. Also, in retrospect, I would have opted for something without a stylus as they ALWAYS have functionality problems and I never use them for anything useful except drawing mustaches on my wife. However I'm a phablet guy and theven Note 5 seemed like the right choice. And, again, hands down best camera on ANY phone. OK, off to try new UI, I hear the Google one is pretty good too. Jeff who posted earlier, stay tuned and I'll let you know if it resolves the issue so you can implement it

Using Nova and switched to Google Keyboard. Ran through some things that would instigate the problem and so far so good. But will only know for sure after I reinstall all my apps for 24 hours. Keep you posted.

24 hours without a.problem. Phone has endured a night of charging, games, netflix, bluetooth, camera and several other apps I've even been afraid to use before. Working like a champ. For those experiencing this problem, I'm sure it's TouchWiz. Nova seems to have eliminated that problem. I hope the gentleman earlier in the thread tries it.

My S6 is doing the same thing. I have been running the Google Now launcher since I first setup the phone. Started after about a week, noticed it, rebooted and it happened 2-3 times in very short time, then went a few days without issue. Happened again today.
Would love to know of a fix.
Running minimal downloaded software, and have disabled most the unwanted bloatware. Wifes S6 seems fine...
Matt

EDIT: I didn't reboot, picked up phone a few hours later and it was working as normal.. DFUQ?

Mine was doing the same thing until a couple of days ago when the screen went completely black. It wouldn't turn on at all. I called TMOBILE and they sent out a replacement. This one is fine.

Hmm so there goes my theory about it being a problem exclusive to AT&T firmware. I did make it 24 hours without an issue in safe mode, but I can't tell if it was because it eliminated the troublesome APP or due to a lucky streak. Even if Safe Mode helped, the software conflict isn't as simple as an app. I've run this phone with everything removed, including Chrome/Samsung browser, except for phone. I do think its something to do with it receiving information while in lock screen. I turned off all notifications and the 2 lock screen widgets you have access to, and it has helped. But long stints where the phone isn't in use, while I'm asleep, guarantee the glitch when I fire it up. So weird. Guess I'll just try to get another one and see what happens. Thanks for the input y'all.

Device center gave another phone, within 2 hours, same problem. After beseeching the Phone Gods for whatever transgression I was being punished for, I had an epiphany: Samsung Pay. As soon as I stopped it, the screen worked fine—immediately, without a restart or damned cache partition—and has continued to work fine without a restart for 23 hours. Since my Bank doesn't accept it, no big deal. For anyone else experiencing this, try it. You can't remove it, but the thing that immediately fixed my screen was uninstalling the recent update. Nonetheless I put a force stop (after watching new Star Wars I admit that feels more important than it is), on it and the frame work. Good luck in this 5th Galaxy and May The Force Stop Be With You.
