I finally drove down to Houston to the real Samsung Tech Center. They Flashed my phone with some sort of mega-flash software I guess is not available to the mere mortals at AT&T and Best Buy Samsung Repair centers, and my phone has worked flawlessly since. They cited a conflict between Amazon and Google Calendar, strangely enough and said the Messenger problem was verified, but had been fixed several FB updates ago.
